thank you apartment for always having great things to look through at your online store. while browsing for cute xmas gifts, i found some cute stuff by french design house atypyk(which is ivan duval and
jean sebastien ides) and decided to investigate…

these guys make some really interesting stuff. they’re in the vein of designers like philippe starck and frank tjepkema who know how to infuse whimsy into their work. with products like scratchable postcards, confetti made of real money and “lucky you” four leaf clover stickers, these guys are on the fanciful side of design- and i love it. click here for more info on atypyk and see below for some product shots.

INSANELY DECADENT [100 dollars of confettis*atypyk] yeah, it’s crazy. but you know what, someone might do it.

BELLE [tu es plus belle sticker*atypyk] to put on your love’s mirror. so romantic. so french.

ROUND OF APPLAUSE [bravo flip book*atypyk] ha. give yourself a hand.

i’ve been a fan of wayne thiebaud since college. my printmaking teacher was a huge fan of his and i managed to sneak away with a book of his gorgeously decadent dessert-obsessed paintings when i graduated. so, you could imagine my delight when, after reading josh rubin’s post on risd student timothy liles (i love good art student coverage), i noticed a box he designed for children, dedicated to mr. thiebaud. so, i thought i’d share it. and really, if nothing else, the work of wayne thiebaud always deserves another look. he’s a phenomenal painter whose work has always managed to make me feel good inside. it’s just happy stuff. take a look and enjoy.

PIE FACE [pies*wayne thiebaud] eat up.

CAKEY [around the cake*wayne thiebaud]

LLAMA [llama box*timothy liles] a nice take on wayne’s style…perfect for a unique kids room

land+living just posted on amazing danish ceramicist anne black. i totally took the lure and i’m hooked. check out the article at l+l here and anne’s site here. her “seam” and “tilt” collections are pure ceramic heaven.

LOW MEETS HIGH TECH [idock covers*westshore craftworks] gizmodo posted a bit about these idock covers and i think i might have to agree. it seems a bit silly. well, maybe downright dumb. anyone else think it’s necessary to have an idock cover in walnut or padauk (or one at all?). whatdya think? i’m on gizmodo’s side: pointless. i mean, it goes against the whole i-look, don’t you think?

MESU HUNGRY [measuring bowls*mesu] first, there should be umlauts over the u, but i can’t make them on this damn keyboard. anyway, i think this is kinda creepy, in an almost eating disorder way. these bowls were designed to let you portion control without being dependant on scales and such. i find it a bit creepy. really people, moderation is the key to everything. but, on the upshot, i think they’re super cute bowls. i’d use em to measure things like sugar, chocolate and oh i don’t know, lard.

RETRO FREEZE [retro fridges*big chill] i found these crammed into the tiny ad spaces in dwell magazine. they deserve a bit more attention than that, in my opinion. i’d give my right arm for one of these cuties in blue, buttercup yellow or pink. well, maybe not my right arm, but you know, a lot. retro cute is always cool with me. more info at bigchillfridge.com.
