to the cardboard chair question–
there are tons of cardboard chairs out there, frank gehry has some…
if you are in the los angeles area, you can go to r-23 for sushi and test out their cardboard chairs…quite sturdy.

Congrats! I’m diggin’ the simplicity of the cardboard chair winner. There are more descriptive pic on his site. And thanks for keeping my college mate Mr. Hanchak humble with his 3rd place finish…great stuff all around!

In response to Emily’s question about the cardboard chair. It is sturdy and can support my weight (180lb) and more I’m sure. Each piece has 8 sheets of cardboard laminated with regular white glue. The joints are tight enough to keep it from moving too much. Other than that there is no other reinforcement. And, like mentioned it isn’t used on a daily basis- maybe with some additions it could be though.
Making it was really simple and didn’t take too long. Just glue the sheets together and cut them out on a band saw.
