help

i’ve been thinking about what i’d like to have another contest for…but seem to be drawing up blanks. apartment therapy has the interior design category down- i always love seeing people’s places up close like that- but there seems to be a lot of room for more fun contests out there.

i loved the DIY contest from earlier this year, but it’s time for something new- so, if anyone has any ideas, please do throw them out there. feel free to fill the comments section with any ideas you have about what it might be fun to throw a contest for…best new chair? best new kitchen product? i don’t know, something more exciting, right? i’m feeling uninspired so i’d love to see what all the other design lovers out there are thinking about…thanks for your tips! i’ll look them over, process and announce the contest(s?) in early august. thanks!

Best use of an object that is meant to be used for something else (do you know what I mean?).

Absolutely; either worst airconditioning outlet (central air design that condenses water in attic, whatever) or best living-space cooling efficiency modification. It could be the vaguely green UV USB fan made by X, or whiter matte ceilings, central HID lightpiping, or that (translucent) nanopaint stuff sprayed over old painted shingles….

Best summer salad.
Best kitchen apron.
All around best garden implement.

My personal request is for a contest for best alarm clock.

I would love to see a best-ugly-rental-solution contest. I don’t mean the whole apartment, just clever camouflage for the inevitable eyesores, ie. bad bathroom tiles, paint-encrusted outlets in all the wrong places, awful kitchen cabinets. This topic is endlessly fascinating to me and might motivate me to actually implement some of my own ideas. Pretty please?

Best shower curtain design. We’ve had a lot of requests for modern shower curtains. Seems to be a dearth of them. Plus easy to go into production with it –

I like cinnamonoatmeal’s idea. Best designed/inexpensive products. I’ve been looking for a nice, under $50 watch (I’d love a post about this, actually).
