Me! Me! I have an idea! :)

Buy: antique/retro/cool clear glass container. Can be anything, as long as it has a cork or screwtop or other kind of lid. Also, it’s best if it’s on the smaller side.

Fill with: origami paper stars made by you…. instructions here: http://www.opane.com/opane/luckystar.html. The instructions look a little complicated, but it’s actually quite easy. I tell ya, there is nothing more special than making or receiving a handful of stars.

A twist on the traditional coffee maker: a french press coffee maker from Bodum. Or maybe one of those lovely museum teapots from Jenaer. I had green tea in San Francisco at Sanraku and I just loved it. I’d love to get one of those as a wedding gift.
Other ideas: It’s getting cooler outside, a really cozy throw for the new couple to cuddle up in, maybe some hip magnet board for the couple to write notes to each other on, or a chalkboard (my boyfriend and I write love notes to each other somtimes), a good bottle of wine (you really can never have too much wine …), a gift certificate to someplace fun (like ghiradelli’s) where they could get ice cream together and enclose some chocolates with the certificate, a gift certificate so they can go to someplace nice like Kyo-ya, or Sanraku. Oh, this is making me miss San Fran so much … :)
Hope this helps! :D

Heck… we still find our salad spinner to be the most invaluable wedding present we got :)

Marge, a warning, Jenaer is going to stop making those teapots (and the rest of their lovely kitchen line) soon! So get it while you can. Adagio Teas carries a lot of the line.

a handmade object, whether made by you or a local artisan. a pottery platter or beautiful bowl is a terrific gift, and remembered longer than towels.

i say something handpicked like put together ingredients for ‘the perfect gourmet picnic’ or something?…

or the ‘perfect dinner’ and a romantic dvd…?

then it comes down to the details and presentation instead of price

or to come totally out of left field, how about gorgeous chocolate sushi?

Another great wedding gift idea (impo) is a picnic basket. They’re fun, and encourage people to go outdoors. I highly recommend them.

The one place we love and registered for our recent wedding is Heath Ceramics based in Sausalito, CA. They have a really nice website, and their Coupe Line is my favorite. We mixed and matched and the earthy, modern mix of colors just complemented each other. Love the salt and pepper shakers too! http://www.heathceramics.com

and you can always try sterlingplace.com

When we returned from our honeymoon some of our friends had stocked our fridge and pantry with cereal, soup, milk and a few other basics so that we didn’t have to grocery shop while we were running around like crazy people dealing with wedding presents, getting my name changed, etc… It was one of my favorite presents. :)

Jonathan Adler’s salt and pepper love birds. So simple and sweet. and not outrageously priced, actually.

Instead of cash or a gift certificate, a Savings Bond gives long after the wedding.

I love to give my friends (especially ones I know are into coffee or tea) two gorgeous, matching mugs and saucers, and a bag of some great blend, or box of some fabulous tea. If you really want to make them happy, throw in a vintage tin filled with homemade baklava.
