The UU50 was originally designed as an accessory for our UU47 table. It can be attached above or below the center trough to store wine, linens, or even drawings. It also functions as a centerpiece with this table. The sliding connection that makes this attachment and our desire to create a single aluminum extrusion that is engineered to connect with itself on any of four sides requires a high level of precision in the die process. Because of this, it is an expensive extrusion to run and it requires a greater wall thickness – thus each unit weighs in at almost 5-1/2 lbs. Of course, we knew this early on in the design process but felt there was an appealing quality to the scale and weight of the piece, both somewhat unusual for our time.
The UU50, as with all of MuNiMulA’s designs, is processed and hand finished at our factory in Michigan before being anodized in our custom range of colors. We are committed to continuing to design and manufacture locally, and to paying MuNiMulA’s machinists, welders, and finishers fair salaries.
I hope this helps to place our pricing of the UU50 in context. We are familiar with the subjective as well as objective criteria that may be at play when judging design in general, whether the conversation is about aesthetics, function, or price and appreciate the oppurtunity to describe our design process.

I have two munimula wine racks and I am extremely happy with these items. Not only do they serve their function entirely well, but they are also a strong sculptural statement that clearly enriches the look and feel of a home. I host parties regularly at my house and my guests always notice the touch of elegance and uniqueness that these wine racks provide. As someone with an interest in function and aesthetics, I believe that the wine racks are fairly priced. We must take into account the fact that we are talking about specialty items, not run of the mill products. I am delighted to own these wine racks, and recommend them to those for whom design, uniqueness and elegance are a priority.
