i’m often told by people from la that if i ever moved to california i’d love silverlake. i’m certainly in awe of a number of shops there and several design savvy silverlakers have been on apartment therapy before, so i was excited to get an email about a new shop in the area. reform school was founded by d*s readers billie and tootie and focuses on artists who “reuse creatively”. that means reform school will be making eco-friendly designs their priority, as well as showcasing great local and indie designers. here’s a mere sampling of the artists they’ll be carrying: esther derkx, portia wells, jason miller, perch, jill bliss, camilla engman, k studio and many, many more. sounds like a shop to add to my must-visit list if i ever make it to la. you can visit their website right here and check them out in person at 4014 santa monica blvd. happy shopping! My husband just got us this book about Silver Lake, thought you might like it. It’s beautifully designed and shows some of the cool residences in Silver Lake. Fun store too!

Bohemian Modern is a great book – take it from me, a happy Silver Lake resident, we’re often overrun with cute shops but never lacking in the hip design arena. I used to be able to visit all my favorites in one weekend, now there’s so many!

people have told me the same thing about hypothetically loving silverlake :) also, another positive review of the bohemian modern book — took a look at it the other day and there are some very wonderful spaces and designs and decor in there.

silver lake is a superrr cute area – i used to live near by before moving to nyc, and it’s probably the only area in los angeles that you could walk around… and is neighborhoody.

so it’s great to see what the store looks like.

As a proud member of the silver lake community, i must say it’s the only place I’ve ever loved living in LA and the closet one would feel to a lower east side on the west cost.

but…don’t you’all start moving here. house prices are through the roof as it is!!!! haha.

But yes, you’d love it.

I was in attendence at Sunset Junction a few weeks ago, the yearly Silverlake street fair and walked into this shop. I just about had a heart attack over all the beautiful things they have. Did pick up a Camillla Engman print (after seeing her here of course!). I don’t live in Silverlake but would take the trek anytime for this wonderful spot. The owners are very kind too, hope they have much success.

It really is a community and everyone knows each
other, you can walk everywhere and just hang out.
Reform School is a great store because it supports
local artists such as myself :) Their Baby clothes are
ridiculously cute !! and of course our S2 recycled
products would look good in your home as well ..
