Bummer alert: My best friend sent me a Philadelphia Weekly article that Anthropologie/Urban Outfitters prez Richard Hayne contributed $7500 to the Republican Party and over $13,000 to right-wing Republican Sen. Rick Santorum’s campaign.

This doesn’t put him in the same category as say ExxonMobile or Outback Steakhouse, but still…

again, the president contributed. not the designers, not the store managers not the visual merchandiers- the president. i’d hate to punish a whole sea of talented people for what one man way up the chain did. i know many, many designers selling their work through anthropologie (they’ve really been picking up some fantastic indie designers lately) and i think it’s unfair to cast them all with the same net…or whatever that expression is. yes, it totally blows that he donates to a creep like santorum but please, can we see that perhaps the people in the actual store have NO control over what someone like the president does? i think a lot of people would be shocked to find out what their own company or parent corporation’s bosses do. yes, donating to santorum sucks. good design that happens to be tied to it doesn’t necessarily have to be banished because of that…
