lighting: help?

ac and i are trying to finish up our lighting projects around the house and we’ve finally nailed down most of the rooms (so far we have a niche pendant, nelson pendant and a simple white chandelier) but still have one left. for our kitchen i want one of those simple round diner-style lamps like the ones above (fado from ikea), but i don’t have the time to run out to ikea this week. i was wondering if anyone knew where you could find lights like this in nyc or brooklyn? they’re a pretty classic look but i haven’t found any yet…any ideas are appreciated. xo, d*s

The Ikea ones are lovely…I think I would be lazy and go for the ‘buy online’ and home delivery option if I were too busy to go ;))

Good luck with the search though..

yeah, i called the store but they said it takes 2-3 weeks to get the light if you order online. if i don’t find one by next week i’ll just go over to the nj store, i just wanted to try to pick one up and install it this week….

try Lee’s studio http://www.leesstudio.org . I just went to their site and they carry something really similiar by a company called illuminating experiences. . The other place you can try is Lightforms. lightformsinc.com .

an ikea lamp burned down our house about 4 years ago. lesson: don’t buy ikea lamps.

glo-ball by jasper morrison from flos! it’s what i have in my kitchen! i think that’s what the ikea one takes inspiration from…

whatever you do, just make sure you hang it at the right height…

what about it made it burn down? i’ve had ikea lamps for at least ten years and never had a fire or a problem of any sort. i swear by them for affordable lighting options!

You can also get this kind of lighting at Home Depot, I swear.

I grew up with my entire parents house lit by these kind of lights. My mom told me they were the cheapest option at the time! Still love them!

Hi! I didnt have any luck looking for these at the big home depot type places but i was looking for a variation on this light for another project. this is your best bet: http://www.grandbrass.com/ where you can piece together exactly what you want and need. You will need a little bit of knowledge on how to put a lamp together and they wont let you just walk on in and browse – nor will they talk you through the order…but they had everything i needed and at a cheap enough price (10 lamps cost what i priced for one lamp at other places). They are in Bushwick and you could order them and pick them up. For those particular globes go to replacement glass shades>>glass balls>>and then chose your size in the ones with no neck. Good luck!

Artemide makes a pretty one called Castore but it’s pricey, for about $350. Think they have table, floor and ceiling versions.

I bought something very similar at my local hardward store for 8.99 as a stand by until I get just the right thing. I think it was made by GE. I suggest replacing the icky brass screws with some basic steel ones.
