magneto shelves

designer henry julier sent over these beautiful magneto shelves he designed. the magneto shelves can be adhered to any magnetic surface thanks to several neodymium magnets embedded in each shelf. the series is modular and can be combined in a number of ways to create a shelving systme that fits your particular mood and style. click here for more information on magento. thanks, henry.

Those shelves seem so convenient, but I wonder how sturdy they are?

Hey wow cool!
shelves I can put on any of my metal surfaces… Like, er, my fridge door?
Aren’t all the nicknacks on the shelves just gonna fly off when I go for milk?

what a great idea! Any idea where they’re sold or how to get a hold of them?

Julie-

The magnets are pretty strong, though the strength of adherence also depends on the metal surface. They’re suprisingly sturdy though vases full of water are about their limit.

Spleenal-

If you always open your fridge door slowly, you won’t have a problem! Indeed, these shelves are best placed on non-moving apparatuses.

kat-

I’m looking to get these produced. For now they are made by me.

On a wall primed with a few coats of magnetic paint, these could be quite nifty indeed…

Henry, these are wonderful.

I have a vintage metal filing cabinet that used to belong to the City of Oakland. It has magnets stuck all to the side of it because that’s what you do with metal things, you stick magnets to it. They’re not even fancy, just the metal kind you can buy at american science and surplus (my favorite magnet source). But this would be an even better way to express my magnet obsession and so pretty too. I love the blue too. Henry, please let us know when we can get our hands on some of these!!!!
