time has slipped away from me and i just realized i’ve got to get my scholarship funds to the hard-working students who applied to the contest. the applicants are about to graduate so in the interest of time i’ve decided to forgoe the podcast portion of the scholarship and instead let the students’ work speak for itself. today i’ll be introducing you to the top 13 finalists and letting everyone vote on who YOU think should win the first ever d*s scholarship. i’ll be giving away $3,500 in scholarship funds (saved over the last year from d*s ad revenue) so please vote for whoever you think is the most promising design student. VOTING WILL END ON FRIDAY MORNING AT 8 AM- whoever receives the most votes will be our first place winner (with a prize of $2k). second place will be the student with the second highest votes and so on…so, meet the final 13! [contestants are arranged in alphabetical order]

I love that you have this scholarship program. With all the money funneling away from the arts these days it’s real nice to see. And I loved seeing a Ringling student on the list as well (being a Ringling grad myself).

what a range of talents!

how are we supposed to choose? is the money supposed to be applied to their studies? or are you we going on what our gut tells us? undergraduates pitted against second year grads makes this a really tough call.

but perhaps i am always cheering for the underdogâ€¦

in summary though: the money goes to the artist for whatever purpose they choose. i’m not a fan of scholarships being limited to tuition, boarding, etc. artists have costs that don’t fit into neat boxes and i trust the winners to use their prize for whatever they think best benefits their work.

I love that you let the artists choose how to spend their scholarship. Funds were tight when I was in art school-sometimes it limited the materials that I worked with. (Sometimes it was good, sometimes bad!)

Voting was tough, there are a lot of talented people represented.

I won’t say whom I voted for :) but I will say that, for me, the litmus test was “If I could, would I take this and put it in my home straight away?”

But really all the contenders are marvellous. It’s inspiring to see so much talent out there, and it’s wonderful that you’re giving them this financial leg up.

I think this is such an excellent idea and you’ve found such wonderful talent.

It was very hard to choose, I went back and forth between 2…but finally made a decision. I can’t wait to see who wins!

Thank you for supporting the arts!!! And the artist ARE amazing–love seeing all the different kinds of talents out there——-but the print of the BIBI calendar by Felice….has to be the warmest and sweetest………thanks

oh you have so many wonderful artists, I thought it was going to be really hard to choose, until I spotted the work of Emily Dove Gross. being a gig poster artist myself, I simply had to support her. and her illustration is lovely!
