if there’s one thing i love it’s a good patterned fabric. so this week i decided to make my daily product columns at hg all about products that showcase colorful printed fabrics. there are 5 under $100 and 5 that are a bit of a splurge but either way it’s a big old’ dose of color and pattern. click here to check them out. [the john robshaw napkins and madeline weinrib pillow are my favorites]

i’ve been so inspired by all of the ideas i’ve heard from readers after the kitchen post. d*s reader katya usvitsky sent over these shots of some of her own kitchen diy and reupholstery diy. i love the way she used branches as towel bars- it’s such a nice, soft touch. always fun to see people taking design into their own hands…

i’ve mentioned celery before but i wanted to share this gorgeous picture they sent over. good product photography is such a bonus for designers and this one’s a beauty. all of celery’s furniture is made from sustainable bamboo and comes with this fun little bamboo mallets to help you disassemble them. click here for more info.

one of my favorites things about seeing photos of other people’s homes is seeing objects or furniture you have displayed in a different way. the other day dooce (my online hero) posted a photo of wayne payte’s bird print in her home and i had a mini dance party in my living room. aside from having a geek-out moment and realizing we had the same print, it was fun to see how she displayed it and to see it in a different light. it’s always so fun to see objects come to life when they’re recontextualized.

it’s a bittersweet day to report that rena of rare device is officially moving to san francisco. i’ll be sad to see her go but happy to see that rare device will stay in park slope and team up with the lovely erin of sodafine. in addition, rena will be opening a rare device in san francisco. i’m trying to time a trip with the grand opening so stay tuned for more on the new shop. it will be fun to see how rare device grows and changes. [earrings above are right here]

speaking of san francisco, ac and i fly out next wednesday to visit and housesit for the lovely victoria of sfgirlbybay. kelly at relish put together a nice dinner for a few of my favorite bay area artists and i thought it might be fun to have a little informal meet up afterwards. so, if you’re in san francisco next friday (june 29) swing by and say hi. we’ll be having drinks and just hanging out. we have a tentative location but i’ll announce more next week when i know everything for sure. hope to see some of you there!

beautiful fabrics from david hicks. domino ran a piece on david hicks’ daughter this month and his “herbert’s carnation weave” print caught my eye. such a pretty pattern. click here for more information on his fabrics available at lee joffa. [joffa is trade-only so you'll need to contact a designer to either purchase them for you and help with your project. d*s readers who are registered designers have offered to help us buy fabric so just let me know if you need one of their names]

thank you to everyone who commented on my keepin’ it real kitchen post. i was blown away by all the amazing ideas. i’m definitely going to incorporate a book shelf where the bench was and consider chalkbord paint for the space with corkboard right now. my immediate plans are to run with something similar to this photo above submitted in the comment section (from the san francisco gate, photo by eric luse). so i’m off to paint the ceiling yellow! and maybe a square behind the book shelf to tie it together (like the AT post suggested in the comment section). i’m going to get a nice white chandelier or pendant, too- i’ll post the results as i go along. in the meantime, here are some great yellow fabrics from joel dewberry (thanks, anon) to go with my yellow ceiling obsession for today…
