oh joy!

i’m a little jet-lagged this morning but so thrilled to be back and starting the day with a sneak peek from one of my favorite design bloggers: joy of oh joy! and nantaka joy. i know it can be a little nerve-wracking to share photos of such an intimate space so i just want to thank joy for sharing them with us- and everyone who’s shared so far. joy’s descriptions will follow below in her own words, but if you’d like to skip straight to the full sized (and extra) pictures you can click right here. [that’s joy’s cat bruce on an amy butler upholstered office chair above]

[bedroom: this is my favorite room! the blue wall is painted in a pearlescent paint by benjamin moore which gives it a great color & shimmer at night. the bird pillow cases are by dwell and the striped edge cases behind it are from variegated. various artists’ work sits on the wall above the bed. left to right: yumi yumi bird print, photo by karen wise, bear print by camilla engman, another yumi yumi print, couch print by jessica ritter, abigail percy print on kraft stock, camel & birds by foxy & winston, and another jessica ritter print. the mid-century danish chair is covered in hable’s lemon bead fabric with a michele varian pillow on top.]

[my work table (a kitchen top counter from ikea) holds all of my art supplies, paper samples, fabric scraps, etc. in the various drawers. the designhouse stockholm bicycle basket serves as a scrap bin when cutting out mock-ups.]

[some office close-ups: vintage canister, teacup, frame, and vase with one of my nantaka joy notebooks. in the teacup saucer are a bunch of giveaway pins from various people during stationery show week…paper + cup, nama rococo, and la familia green.]

Wow. What great shots, Grace. I love the sneak peaks.

Oh, and I LOVE that Amy Butler fabric! Is there any place you can order it online?

I love seeing the work spaces of other artists! What a clever use for that beautiful lacey bicycle basket. Very light, cheerful and charming space. Thanks for sharing…

Is the base of your work table (with the drawers) also from IKEA? It looks familiar…

Hi Grace,

What a lovely space! Did Joy happen to mention which exact Benjamin Moore color her bedroom was painted? It’s the color I’ve been searching for!

Thanks!
Kelly

What a beautiful serene home. I have a question as I am agonizing over how to frame a bunch of prints. In the grouping over the bed - are some of those stock frames and some from a frame shop?

Everything is quite lovely.

kelly

she did (over at her blog). she said:

“the benjamin moore color is: Latex Metallic Pearlescent Tint Base in Icy Mist.”

G -
the frames are a combo of store bought and frame shop. I chose to have the more expensive prints and originals framed at a shop (those are the gold & silver frames). and then the less expensive prints were framed with ready-mades from West Elm or Ikea (the white & chocolate brown).

Beautiful! Could you tell me where the red coral wall piece is from? Is it large enough to hang coats on, or is it specifically for smaller items?

thanks so much for a true ‘peek’ into your life!

mykull,

grace was right about the coral piece..it’s from a couple years ago so i don’t know if that color exists..i use it for jewelry..it probably could hold clothing, but not quite hefty enough as a coat hook..

kerry ~ the desk chair is from pottery barn, i have the full bedford desk with chair. the chair is cute but not the most comfortable so i double up with the cushions!…

I love the yellow chair fabric from Hable. How can you purchase Hable fabrics by the yard?
Thanks!

what a great series, joy the apt looks great. it always did, but i esp like the prints, I don’t think I saw all of them before. did you do that cushion on the chair yourself? did I miss where the design was from?

I am particularly envious of your mid-century Danish chair - I am looking for one that I wish to use as a reading chair in my home office. Your Ikea work station is so neat and practical with the glass window drawers. I got to find the place for one.

E, hable fabric can be purchased through a decorator or interior designer. they do not sell directly to the public.

thanks jane! i didn’t sew either of the cushions myself..my sewing skills are very basic (i could do a simple flat pillow!) so i found a couple local seamstresses to sew them inexpensively.

Beautiful space. I actually have the same IKEA counter set where I do most of my work. It’s a fantastic buy and the best thing in my work space besides the old file cabinet with 24 small drawers! Just keeps all the little stuff organized.

Gorgeous home Joy!
I was wondering where you got the gray message board that hangs above your work table.
