blast from the past

whenever i walk into work at hg i feel overwhelmed with a sense of history. the walls are covered with huge (huge) blown up photographs of old covers and spreads ranging back to the 1940s. some of my favorite photos are from the 50s- i love imagining what life would have been like if i was expected to maintain a home like some of these. they’re stunning, but in some way completely surreal in their perfection. i just wanted to share some of my favorites, which you can buy right here if you’re interested. i’ve always wanted to buy the one with the woman on the bed wearing headphones- it’s so gorgeous. the photos aren’t super cheap ($180-$1500) but they’re fun to look through as a mini-tour through the history of interior design.

I came by to check out the bloggers’ guide to online shopping, and found all of this ~ your blog is just amazing. It makes mine look like a first graders. :) love these pics.

The artwork on the walls was one of my favorite things about working on the H&G website too (besides getting to hang out with you, Katy and Paul, of course). Although don’t you find the Thom Filicia odalisque photo a little off putting?

These photos are amazing! The one of the woman with the oranges- I can’t stop looking at it- and I realize it’s the orange on the ground that makes that photo so stunning, so tense. Why is it on the ground? And there she is just staring off into the distance with an orange in her hand. Did she drop the one on the ground? Does she know it’s there? The whole photo feels so subversive…

Love what you do here. Thanks.

There is one modular house (the same as in the photo) by the road I drive to my summer house in Finland. It’s left there to run-down and it’s in quite bad shape. What a shame!

The Conde Nast Store now (where these prints are sold) now has some great images by Hugo Guinness, if anyone’s a fan. It’s a limited series of prints he’s created for Vogue:

Four botanical designs, framed, 100 prints of each design, at $300 each. You can see the images listed in the index of the December issue of Vogue. These are probably going to go fast, so I’d get in there now.
