Greg Natale is a hot young Australian interior designer. He’s a master of pattern, a lover of retro and an out and out exponent of glam. Kim and I have featured him many times on our blog because his designs are so hot (and because he kindly shares great shots of his commissions!). When he heard we were guest blogging on design*sponge he sent these exclusive pictures of one of his latest apartment designs in Sydney. Ouch! It’s so glamorous and luxe it hurts. Greg thought the readers from outside Australia, and that’s most of you, would get a kick out of the amazing views of Sydney from the windows of this high rise apartment. I didn’t even notice the stellar views at first because I was devouring the design.

Ok so this is high end stuff of dreams for most of us. But what can we learn from these photos? (Besides the fact that Greg is an amazing designer!) There are great small space solutions here. If you look closely this is not a huge expansive home. Inner city Sydney apartment space is at a premium so Greg has cleverly “expanded” the space with mirrored walls, unified colour scheme, furniture with legs that lift them off the floor and fool the eye into seeing open areas. Gloss surfaces reflect light and views adding to the visual tricks. Dark colours don’t necessarily box in a room. They remove the boundaries by blurring them. Greg utilises the view to extend the apartment “out there”. Open plan living enlarges the space and clutter is banished to concealed, flush storage. Long vistas have been set up where possible giving the illusion of something further on.
