the lovely mirtha at the antibride sent over this fantastic holiday diy project. in honor of the holidays (and diy wednesdays) i thought it would be a fantastic project to share! not usually a huge fan of christmas, she decided to create a festive decoration for her new home inspired by the wreath at amy butler’s home in the holiday issue of blueprint magazine. though she was on a tight budget mirtha managed to use leftover materials she had laying around (along with some white spray paint) to create this beautiful holiday decoration. mirtha was kind enough to share her instructions below, as well as a downloadable version of the pattern she created. have fun! [stay tuned for a new VIDEO diy wednesday project at 12:30 and a new sneak peek tomorrow!]
here’s what she used:
-illustration board (bread board or something similar)
-spray glue
-x-acto knife
-styrofoam balls
-white spray paint
-scotch mounting tape
-glue or hot glue gun
-wreath hook
first mirtha made the pattern (download here) using four different circle sizes. she printed the pattern onto letter-sized sheets and mounted them with spray glue to the illustration board. then, using the x-acto knife, she carefully cut out the pattern, which is the wreath base. afterwards, she cut out circles (using only two sizes) and cut the foam balls in half. she spray painted the wreath base, the circles and the foam balls individually, so everything was well painted. after it dried, she used mounting tape (to give it a little depth) for the individual circles and glue for the foam balls to attach them into the wreath base.
