Love, love, love this! It's so simple and yet SOOooooo effective - what an inspired idea! I love instant gratification crafts so I'm going to have a rummage through my stash tonight and see what I can come up with.

An idea to stop it from unraveling -- use Fray-Stop (from a needlework store)on the edges of the runner. Frey Stop costs about 2 dollars and you should have enough for a few runners.

grace, i am sooo inspired by this post, and am now finally in the holiday spirit as of today. i've been needing something festive for a tiny gathering we're having and have decided to forgo the traditional christmas tree for this --

Cool, you could use linen or another tighter weave fabric if you want to wash this later. To keep it from unraveling edge the back side with an ironed on seam binding or, this would include a bit of sewing, you could stitch around the 4 edges.

I did that last year minus the fancy decoration. Everyone loved it and I added other rustic table decorations like pinecones. Cheap and gorgeous!

Just a note to anyone thinking of doing this... DO NOT decide to wash the burlap (even in cold water on delicate) because it smells funny. It makes a terrible mess and ruins the burlap!
