enfant terrible + also design

enfant.jpg
it’s rare that i’m taken with a website design that involves flash but i’m pretty nutty about the launch of enfant terrible, designed by also design. also did my site when we relaunched this october and i’m consistently amazed by their work. click here to check out the enfant site. i’ve spent the better part of this morning watching the little vespa man scoot around the site. so adorable. i love the colors they used, too.

[and betsy dunlap did the lettering on the site, i love it!]

Love it!

I am will be working with Also-online to build an e-commerce site to launch early Summer 2008. Can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Grace, thanks again for the reference.

Definitely used to great effect. Doesn’t feel all “look at me, look at me” just sweet and stylish. Not surprised, I suppose, as Also is truly amazing in their approach. Mmmmm. (Love the colors as well, Grace.)

it *is* a lovely illustrative animation. it’s just too bad their actual product photography is so poor. :(

I thought I recognized that lettering from one of your past posts - I ADORE Betsy Dunlap’s lettering, holy cow.

And what is up with that precious little deer (or is it a tiny moose?) in their pictures? All the details are so fab. Thanks!

really? i think the photography is gorgeous. maybe i’m just partial to photos that have a mood to them and do more than the standard “product on white background” thing ;)

I discovered this site just the other day and was in awe- it is so beautiful!

I don’t happen to prefer a “product on white background” thing either. ;)

But I can say from my experience that there’s a difference between well-executed “mood” and what looks like “creative” use of available incandescent light, which, for me in this case, is muting those products that do have some color to them.

I think that mood shots, with warm lighting that still allows colors to pop, with slightly more straight-forward framing, and with a bit better control over focus / depth of field would have been exciting complements to the site design, while better presenting the products.

And as a consumer, if i’m going to pay $306 for an 18 month old’s cashmere outfit, maybe the photos could be a bit more styled and polished than having them sort of clump up against a wall. know what i mean?

it’s still a *very* cute site. i just see opportunities to improve the photography in future rounds. thanks. :)

we heart also big time: mayfairworkshop.com!!! They are they best.
I agree about the photogaphy, though. I like the mood of it, but it holds the product back from being enjoyed.
that said, how about those shoes!!!
