plait textiles

ac and i were going to post a gift guide for guys today but it turned into a whole “discussion” about what guys do and don’t like. apparently my choices were a little too “girly” for him. ok, so maybe some guys don’t want teal ipod nanos. anyway, we’re coming up with a mega-guys guide for tomorrow that will represent my aesthetic and his aesthetic together. sorry for the delay in the post- i promise it will be worth it when we’re done. ac wants to make sure there’s something in the guide for “guy” guys. in the meantime i wanted to post these beautiful handmade textiles from plait in place of the guide today.

plait napkins are handmade textiles made of 100% cotton. designer jennifer pellman hand weaves them in small batches in her madison, wi studio. she leaves the natural selvedges as the finished edges on two sides of the napkin – a feature rarely revealed in commercially produced textile products. jennifer says that she “want[s] people to enjoy and use them as much as [she] enjoy[s] weaving them” and i think that’s a safe bet when you look at the beautiful range of colors she’s offering. photographer jen causey shot these gorgeous photos and between the beautiful textiles and well-styled photos i’m not sure i can resist buying a set. if you can’t resist either, or just want to check out more, click here for the plait textiles website. [thanks, jennifer!]

I have to laugh about the “guy’s guy” issue. I have that problem…most guy gift guides are for a certain kind of guy that isn’t my husband. He is a sports’ lovin’ beer drinkin’ kind of person who is also very conservative and would never wear skull jewelry or leather cuff bracelets and things like that. In other words, he’s impossible to shop for. *sigh*

Megan, I know what you are going through. A typical evening goes me flipping through domino on the couch while he’s watching ESPN. Every time he hassles me about my love for furniture, I hassle him about his love for football. Jewelery and leather cuff bracelets aren’t in his wardrobe either. Last year I got him an Xbox 360… and unless they come out with NCAA 08 early, I have no idea what to get him for Christmas (definitely won’t be any shams).

Wow… those fabrics are truly beautiful. And I have to agree with Megan on the “guy’s guy” problem. My boyfriend is a an engineer with very simple tastes (his apartment verges on the monastical), and as such is completely impossible to shop for. Here’s hoping that the guys’ guide will help.

What lovely fabrics AND lovely photos. Is it bad that I am hungry for some tartine now though?

I agree with Sosser, I would love to see how these feel! They look like they have a very satisfying texture.

I wonder what AC would think of the list I posted to the modish guest blog earlier today? I think it spans the gap?

I am having to get my son the silver one because he scoffed at what they call “blue”.

The napkins from Plait-Textiles are beautiful to behold - and beautiful to hold! I am fortunate enough to own a set and family and guests delight in the texture, the colors and the patterns. Great gift!

Thanks so much for all of the wonderful links. I have spent most of the evening following them. It beats finding a parking place at the mall!
