before and after: mike’s modern dressers

1
the wonderful mike g of st. louis sent in these incredible before and after dressers. mike turned these fleamarket finds into super slick modern dressers with a bright splash of color. even better? mike has more fantastic before and after photos on his website, making of a parent. thanks to mike for sending in these incredible projects!

Love the little red dresser! It’s great to see some crafty dudes representing.

I am LOVING the photo above the taller dresser (quite lovely itself of course). Any hints on its origin?

I was ok with the second dresser being painted, but OMG, painting that first one should be a crime! What a waste!

The first dresser is amazing, but I’m not sure if the geometric color motif fits with the traditional design and round pulls on the second dresser. The small red dresser on his site looks great though!

Brian - What you can’t see in the before picture is all of the damage to the dresser. The veneer was peeling off and the top was covered in water stains. I wouldn’t have painted it if it was salvagable.

That starry print is from Dan McCarthy. http://www.danmccarthy.org/
It’s so nice in person and the stars glow in the dark and make dinosaur constellations. That’s in my 2 yr old son’s room and I imagine him taking it with him to college someday.

I have to admit that I’m not normally a fan of before and afters (I always like the “before” better! Heh, sorry! I just love woodgrain!) but these are awesome!! The first one especially is wicked! So original and cool looking, love it :)

Where did you get all that talent and good eye for what works? Did you inherit it? Great job.

Fawn - The record print is by Jason Munn. I own a couple of his and they are great. The one you see is sold out but you can find others like it here:

Great, edgy color combos - they both work for me.
