I have two matching chairs just like yours that are vinyl as well... they are the same size but one is green and one is orange. I have yet to use interfacing, but I think that would do the trick! I took the flowery print off the chair -- it was pretty tattered from my cat. Underneath was sparkly green vinyl -- also lovely... ;) and the fabric I used is actually thick enough that you can't see the green through it.
