Etsy- the place to shop

the-black-apple-etsy.jpg
today i wanted to post about the retail website that has taken the design world by storm since it launched in 2005. etsy is described as the place to buy and sell handmade items, and it seems anyone who’s anyone is opening a store. obviously the really big players are excluded as items must not be factory produced, but lots of designers have found it to be great way to reach a worldwide audience. many who already have their own retail website find its also worth having an etsy presence, and given that on the 21st january 2008 etsy had 8.6 million page views you can see why. the postcard above is by the black apple, aka emily martin, who is a real etsy success story selling over 12,000 items. here are some of my etsy picks for today.

mister-rob-ryan-etsy.jpg
above, you can find artwork on etsy ranging from $10 write up to highly collectable art like
this from rob ryan priced at $400.

you can find sophisticated designs like those above from inkjet, kate sutton, and decoy lab, or fun cute items like these below from the hunted and this little pig.

what makes etsy so accessible is reasonably priced worldwide shipping, and once registered you can safely pay using paypal. why not take a look and see what you could buy or sell on etsy. below pillow by joom, artwork by jenn ski, and prints from bird nerd.

Thank you for posting about Etsy! As a seller on that site, I’ve found that the overriding sense of community and helpfulness makes every buying experience so pleasant. Not to mention all the unique goods you can find!

Etsy has become my go-to source for gifts lately – and I always try to grab a few things for myself. There’s something so gratifying about getting to communicate directly to the person who is creating the things you buy. The experience is so much better than your average shopping trip.

Also – somewhat related – I’m loving the new “bird” trend and am happy to see so many birdy things feature here :) Beautiful!

Thanks for posting your finds! I’m selling on Etsy too, and it’s mind-boggling how much great stuff and great sellers are on there.

Thanks for posting about Etsy! As both a seller (missnatalie.etsy.com) and a buyer (too many shops to count), I love the instant access it gives us to beautiful, handcrafted items. With so many shops now, the tricky part is finding the good ones. Blogs like Design*Sponge and others have really helped shoppers by showcasing the cream of the crop.

Etsy is amazing. Not a day goes by and I don’t surf Etsy for cool and unique handmade items. Lately I’ve been buying more than I’m selling (chickrocks.etsy.com), whichever I do…I feel privileged to be part of Etsy.

Wonderful introduction to the world of Etsy! I love it both as an artist who sells my fiber arts there and for the amazingly creative spirit that permeates every page of it! Glad I found your blog through Etsy!
