happy girl

146.JPG
i’m a very happy girl today because what’s sitting on my countertop? a new kitchenaid mixer in pistachio! i tried out derek and lauren’s marshmallow recipe (yum!) and then ina’s pumpkin mousse parfaits (delicious). now i’m inspired to change the color scheme of the kitchen to match my mixer. maybe i’ll take on a little weekend makeover project…

Oh the joys of the Kitchen Aid mixer! Definitely worth every inch of counter space.

Where did you find those beautiful pottery pieces, holding your utensils and succulents?!

it’s definitely worth the counter space- even though that tiny square is all we have ;)

all of the porcelain pieces are by karin eriksson. the purple one holding the marshmallows is by lorena barrezueta.

I love my kitchen aid more than any sane person should. try using it for mashed potatoes. they come out a perfect combination of fluffy and lumpy.

i love my mixer. it has a prominent place on my counter as well. here’s a fun dinner tip: i make four to six pizza dough rounds in the mixer (takes just minutes) then roll them out. i have friends bring over toppings and wine, and we have a pizza night. every one gets a slice of something different.

I wish my kitchen looked like that! Are those plants real? They look fantastic and I’ve been searching for something just like them that won’t die under my care. Any suggestions on places for terrific artificial plants? I’ve been searching high and low! *Thanks for the great blog*

what a fantastic idea! i love that for an impromptu lunch, too. do you have a dough recipe you use and love? i’m pretty hopeless when it comes to anything related to bread ;)

lindsay

the plants are real, they’re just little succulents. super easy to care for.

Congrats Grace on your super cute mixer!
Seeing your tiny suculants on the counter prompted me to ask….how do you care for them? I purchased an assortment of similar succulants a few months ago and they are dropping like flies…can’t figure out if I am over watering them or under watering them…..do yours get a ton of sunlight?
Thanks for your advice as always!

stellaquinn:

i think the problem with succulents is that most people overwater them. i give these tiny guys a tablespoon of water a week- max. in the summer i may do a tiny bit more but they dont get a ton of sunlight in the winter so they usually wilt a little or just stop growing. i put them in my windowsill most of the time and they’ll make it to summer when they can start soaking up more sun.

when in doubt- don’t water them. i find that leaving them alone for a few weeks usually fixes anything i’ve done to them on accident.

you can always get some cactus food at the store (i get mine at the hardware store downstairs) if they really need a boost.

yes, but my dough recipe is for jackson hole, so it’s different for this altitude. i think what makes my dough so good, though, is that it’s sweetened with honey. i think if you use the basic dough recipe that came in the kitchenaid book, sweeten it with some quality honey instead of sugar, it will be great. the best part is you can throw all the ingredients in the mixer, go wash some dishes, and come back in five minutes and the dough is done.

I got one, too! I love it and find reasons to mix any and everything I cook. I also now have no counter space, but I guess I really don’t need it since I do just throw everything in the mixer. I like the color of yours, too! Mine’s black because I have color commitment issues.

I got a kitchenaid mixer too for x-mas… in the nickel pearl to match all the stainless. I wonder how many of your readers also got mixers for the holidays. How fun!

Ah – I have the exact same mixer in the exact same color! It has been the pride of my kitchen for years! And, I’ll admit, my kitchen was re-worked to present the gorgeous green of the mixer in all its glory!

Enjoy it and all the baking you’ll now do with it!

I made the marshmallows and gave them too my hot-chocolate-addicted mother for Christmas–she was beyond thrilled!

And a Kitchenaid mixer is next on my “important purchases” list. Did you buy attachments, too?

grace said:

amanda

so glad you liked the marshmallows- i made them on monday and they were so good!

i didn’t buy any attachments for the mixer yet- it came with the whisk, paddle and dough hook, which is enough for me now. the pasta attachment looks fun but it’s like $150. eek.

for Karen’s poll – I got one too. An early wedding present from my parents. I joked that there’s no need for a wedding now. I have the nickel plated one also. Too many colors in my kitchen already.

Hands down the best mixer, ever. I received the pistachio as a present two years ago and it has seen many, many batches of chocolate chip cookies since then.

I’m definitely a big supporter of changing the color of your kitchen to match the appliances; especially when it’s a Kitchen Aid Mixer!! Big thumbs up :-)

My mom has a white kitchenaid and her cookies just never taste as good as the ones I make in my PINK kitchenaid. I have to say their fab colors make all the inspirational difference and add the final touch to any recipe.

how friggin’ cute. mine [well, boyfriend's] is graphite. boo. but at least i have one.

i recommend the ice cream attachment. i got it this summer and it was super worth it. it takes some time, but it’s easy! i made some walnut gelato that rivals il laboratorio’s [so i was told].

Got my pistachio before remodeling the house almost two years ago. The color just goes with anything, and it works as well now as the day we took it out of the box. Enjoy your new best friend!

Beautiful color! I absolutely agree when it comes to wanting to change the whole color scheme of your kitchen to match THE most loveable appliance ever….my kitchen was all sage accents…it has since gone to turquoise and red-orange accents to match the persimmon Kitchen-Aid highlight on the countertop.

Oh yeah! I must have one of these.

A few years back I finally laid down “The Law” that Wife/Mother was to get absolutely no more appliances as gifts. I am now calling my husband in here, showing him the mixer–and putting a moratoreum on my appliance ban. You see, my birthday is next week. Yep, that green will do just fine.

I have half-seriously threatened to get one of the big professional ones for years. Maybe when I build my summer kitchen. Some day.
