heart-shaped project

pia jane bijkerk has just launched a fun new project on her blog- and she’s invited everyone to join in. she’ll be collecting photos that have heart-shaped objects in them as part of “my heart wanders: a collection of subtle hearts in special spaces”. the project will be a collective book project and anyone can enter. here are some of the guidlines:

  • the photo needs to include a heart shape of sorts
  • it needs to be handmade or found by you
  • it needs to be subtle, not loud and overbearing - but inviting and gentle. remember the “where’s waldo” books? well think of that as a guidance. imagine looking at an image and trying to find where the heart is in it.

There’s a local artist (I’m in Boston) here who does something very similar. Exactly the same, actually :) It’s called Hearts Happen, I first saw her at a craft fair and now I spot her greeting cards and small prints in shops about town… http://www.heartshappen.com/

Hi Leyre, thanks for the link! it’s not quite what this project is - this is more along the lines of an interiors book, and a place for people to showcase their work under the theme of including a heart somewhere. px

yes exactly grace. this is not a ‘new’ idea, it’s a means of collaboration and to showcase your work in a published book.

looking at those links the best one to better describe what we will be aiming for in this project is your ‘chloe wolfe cowen’ link. and all these links are great inspiration so thanks for sharing!

Oh no! I wasn’t insinuating anything by saying they were the same - at least I wasn’t intending to. Personally I think the project is great, I got a kick by just how many random hearts that local artist had found around town. I like the fact that Pia’s is a more collaborative effort, especially since I’ve been keeping an eye out for random hearts here and there ever since seeing the Hearts Happen stuff, I wonder how many random hearts I’ve passed by without ever realizing they were there!
