it’s about that time again! two weeks from today i’m hopping on a plane to the pacific northwest for the next round of d*s biz lady meetups! so far the portland rsvp’s are coming in like crazy but seattle needs a little bit of a boost- so i thought i’d re-post some of the details and explain the night again for anyone unfamiliar with our meetups.

on february 26th (portland) and february 28th (seattle), d*s will be coming to town to host an informal meetup where women running their own design-based businesses (or who want to start one) can come meet, mingle and receive free business advice from local experts. here’s the breakdown by location:

portland:

location and time: tuesday, february 26th, 7-9pm at dwr portland
speakers: amy ruppel (talking about her real life success story and the more day-to-day aspects of balancing life and your own company), d*s (i’ll be talking about PR and marketing for the independent designer), tilde owner debbe hamada (debbe will discuss wholesaling and all things retail), sarah chenven from mercy corps NW (discussing business concerns: taxes, contracts, etc.)

seattle:

location and time: thursday, february 28th, 7-9pm at dwr seattle
speaking: fumi watanabe (talking about her real life success story and the more day-to-day aspects of balancing life and your own company), d*s (i’ll be talking about PR and marketing for the independent designer), velocity art and design owner john tusher (john will discuss wholesaling and all things retail), michelle hayden bomberger (discussing business concerns: legal, taxes, contracts, etc.)

there’s still plenty of room at both events so if you’d like to come by please just drop a line right here to rsvp. and just a reminder, if you’re able to- please bring a small snack (a box of cookies, etc) to the event- we do things pot luck style so no one gets stuck providing enough for 100 people on their own.

there will be a meeting in brooklyn in march. i’m still trying to find speakers- our format will be a bit different than these because we’ve done this style of meeting before so i’d like to step it up a notch for our second round.

and as for dc, i’d love to come but sadly not enough people voted for dc when we had the poll for this year’s traveling. hopefully 2009 will be different ;)

Darn! I will be out of town when you’re in Seattle. Anything else in the works for later on this year? Sounds like a wonderful lineup for both. I work with Fumi and Amy through iPop and find them both to be an inspiration, so I am very bummed I cannot attend!

I attended the meeting in San Francisco. It was amazing! The speakers were incredibly helpful and gave lots of good tips on helping my friends and I get our company Savvy Tools started (check us out on http://fivenonblondes.wordpress.com/ ). I was also shocked to see the huge turnout of creative, talented women. It was great for networking. Thanks Grace! I’m hoping you get to come back again sometime.
