Today we are going to visit the talented food and interior stylist and crafter Paul Lowe. He packed up and moved from Oslo to New York 2 years ago after finding the love of his life there. They now live in a small Upper west side apartment. Paul has worked on 18 books and has done styling for countless magazines and has worked with some incredible photographers. You can see more of his work on his inspiring blog - Sweet Paul. I could spend hours just trolling through his beautifully arranged displays. When I look at these pictures of his home, I love how a consistent color story is used throughout the small apartment to make it feel cohesive. So, take it away Paul…
“When Pam asked me at first to do this I thought “Hell no!”. This place is not something to present to people. But after a while I gave it a shot and it turned out to be a lot of fun to do this. This place is a mix of old and new, stylish and not so stylish, but most important, this is a home! So welcome, take your jacket off and stay for a while. This is our bedroom - the seaweed on the wall is a specimen from the late 1890’s - it’s really beautiful. The others are just from a couple of French books I used in styling a story on honey (seen on my blog). The pillow is made from my grandmothers favorite silk scarf from the 60’s. The lamp and shade from Urban Outfitters and the small orange plastic table is from the Conran Shop. The white headboard and chocolate quilt are from West Elm. On my bedside table you will see the latest book I am reading - Elsa Schiaparelli’s “Shocking life”. The vase is from my doilies collection soon to come to Etsy.
Here is our living room. We bought the sofa (found at The Door Store) to match our dog, or dog hair that is! We found it at The Door Store. I once had a white sofa and a dark grey cat….it almost drove me crazy. The 70’s coffee table is a flea market find. The metal chair in the living room was my first “street find” here in NY. I was so proud! The British flag pillow is by Jonathan Adler and the green cross- stitch pillow Otis’s Grandmother made.
This small orange collection is a mix of finds from Ebay, flea markets, and galleries.
Our dining table is from West Elm. We found the fiberglass Eames chairs from the 50’s at Ebay. The lamp over the table is just a huge shade we found in a small cheep shade shop in Chinatown. On the table is a ceramic vase from one of my favorite ceramic designer- Mette Fjortoft at Scusi. She is a Norwegian designer who is a part of my “Designers Own Christmas Fair” that I arrange every year in Norway. Its always filled with mums. Mums are my favorite flower. Many years ago when I was a florist I used to fill my shop with mums in all colors. I don’t understand why people think of funerals when they see them…to me they are the ultimate flower!
