Hello everyone! We are so happy to be guest blogging here at Design*Sponge this week! We’d like to thank Grace for giving us the opportunity! For those of your who don’t know us, we are Julie and Kathryn, two designers from Winnipeg, Canada. We started our blog, perfectbound, as a way to share our inspirations, ideas, and love of design. If you’re familiar with our blog, you know that we like to share bits of our favourite things or a moment of our day in
hopes to inspire our readers with the beauty of the everyday. Here’s a little background of each of us:
Julie – I’ve been a student all my life and have just finished art school with my thesis in Graphic Design. My new found time has been spent discovering and rediscovering my passions for all things related to design. I love nothing more than looking at pretty things and making things look pretty.
Kathryn – I am currently finishing my thesis year in Graphic Design. After gaining experience as a production artist, I returned to school to pursue a degree in design. For as long as I can remember I have loved organizing and arranging objects in aesthetically pleasing ways.

As a student or a young professional fresh to the working world, money can be an object, but we don’t see why it should also be a limitation. We still want to be surrounded by things we love in our homes as we’re sure you all do too! Thrift stores, garage sales and antique stores have become indispensable. We found that frequent visits and only choosing objects we really loved allowed us to create individual spaces that reflected each of our styles, without breaking the bank. We’re all about thrifty finds and we’ll share some of them with you this week.

For our week here, we racked our brains thinking of what to post about! We realized it didn’t have to be ground-breaking and thought we’d do what we do best! Throughout the week we will show you ways to create unique vignettes for a photo or space with interesting pairings of colour, print, and scale, as well as some images of our favourite set-ups. We will also introduce you to the Winnipeg art scene and to one local artist that is becoming well known around the world for his colourful creations that reflect his positive attitude.
For us, it’s all about making simple objects and daily rituals special and beautiful and we hope to inspire you all to do the same!
