today’s sneak peeks are almost a story in opposites. the first, elena’s home, is a beautiful minimalist loft and today’s second sneak peek, matt from etsy and benedikta from burdastyle, is lovely, more eclectic interior within a traditional brooklyn brownstone. i love the contrast between the two and thought it would be fun to see two very different styles back to back. so, back to the sneak peek.
today’s second peek belongs to matt stinchcomb, vp of communications at etsy, and benedikta, co-creator of burdastyle.com. matt and benedikta live in a beautiful traditional building in the clinton hill area of brooklyn. i love their beautiful collection of vintage furniture (and their gorgeous fireplaces) and artwork- but somehow i wouldn’t expect anything less from two people so closely tied to fine art and design. you can view full-sized and additional photos of their home right here or click “read more” below to view the full selection of photos. thanks to matt and benedikta for sharing their beautiful home with us.

[images above: The top photo at the start of the post is our upstairs working space. Behind me is the table where Beni is constantly designing and sewing new creations for Burdastyle and herself. Let’s see… The desk is a vintage bakers table I bought in Saugerties NY, the French kicks poster (my old band) was hand-printed by the talented folks at Methane Studios in Atlanta. The one above that comes from cannonball press in Brooklyn. The genetics poster I found in the garbage outside the high school on South Elliot Place in Fort Greene. The guitar is a very beloved and dear old Guild, The Eye examining machine works! I bought it at a flea market. The carpet is from Ikea. Photo directly above: The couch is from White Furniture, the pillows Beni picked up at the New York Magazine super sale and are from Jonathan Adler. The quilt is a vintage Indian affair that we bought at a store in brattleboro, VT]

[image above: Our dining room table, made from reclaimed, antique pine. A wedding present from my mother. She got it at a shop in Virginia. We use the antique mailboxes to store wine. The chairs are antiques from Germany (a wedding gift from Beni’s father)]

[image above: The mantel in the office. The photograph is from a series of girls and their horses by my dear friend, Anne Hall. Her work is beautiful. Like the mantel downstairs, this one is forever being filled with little treasures. The mustachioed man is an amazing talking painting from J. Richel, The glass duck is from Matthew Stewart, the cross dressing fellow is another find from Etsy.

[image above: Living Room as viewed from the dining room. All the wood detail, though in need of some repair, makes me feel like an adult in a “grown up ” home, but it is actually really comfortable. I spend most of my time banging out songs on the beat up old piano I got at the Salvation Army. Let’s see, the couch we got at white furniture on Broadway, the chairs are from Moon River in Wiliamsburg, the tables and lamps were picked up at various places over the years, and the big hutch in the back right I inherited from my father. The 19th century Kilim was a gift from Beni’s aunts and uncles.]

[image above: The mantel in the living room invariably stores a collection of ever- rotating treasures. Right now it is home to some of my faves. On the far right is an original from the ever-talented Ashley G, next to that is a vinage “erotic” postcard from Italy, Next to that is a beloved man-headed deer from Melabo. The horse is a reproduction of a chinese sculpture that I also got form my pop. The Concert of birds came from Beni’s family, and is my favorite piece in the house. The lil’ lady with plants in her head is “Lady Margret” and is available from Clay Flower 22. The painting on the far left was done by a friend of Beni’s in Germany.]
