the modern hunter

i’m a huge fan of paige russel’s work so i was thrilled to hear about her new vintage shop on etsy. i’m still a little torn on the whole vintage items at etsy thing because i’d really love to see the site stick to the mission of connecting handmade makers with buyers (i’ve already read that as original makers i guess). but sometimes a few items sway me back towards loving it. paige’s hobby shop, as she calls it, is full of everything from tableware and accessories to toys for children. click here to check it out and shop online. [thanks, paige!]

I adore the teapot, at least I think that is a teapot. What a gorgeous shade of blue!

i agree for the most part, vintage stuff really doesn’t have a place in the etsy community. but some people work really hard at restoring and fixing up old stuff - and thats an art in and of itself!

also - buying handmade, and buying used/repurposed items fits into the same politic ideology that is the handmade movement. both reduce our dependence on big box retailers and reduce waste.

at any rate - YAY ETSY!

awesome photostyling. it adds lots of personality but doesn’t distract from the objects.

I think the idea of repurposed items or re-invented with some care from the secondary creator is great for etsy. Handmade or crafted items is what I’d rather see there. Maybe there is a better spot than ebay and craigslist for vintage items. New niche market?

Can anyone identify the wood and glass mugs?

Thanks for all your comments everyone and thanks so much Grace for the post & support! Fay, the info on the bottom of the wood and glass mugs is Schott Mainz / Jena er Glas. I’m afraid that’s all I can tell you. And thanks to this post, they have already gone to a good home… Have a great day everyone!

a friend of mine does a nice job re-inventing and hand-altering the vintage items she offers in her etsy shop; i think it makes them special in a new way. she also offers newly handmade things, but i think the “vintage” ones actually sell better, interestingly. http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5557018

i agree with you about etsy, but it is kind of hard to resist vintage stuff as cool as that, right?!
