Vincent + Mud (and things around our apartment)

vincent-de-rijk.jpg

Today I want to show you my favorite pieces . Maybe you can remember this series of tableware by Vincent de Rijk , it was featured here on design*sponge years ago i believe. It all started when he was still in school , starting from one form and with the help of fibonacci numbers he designed the other forms. In the end there were 50 shapes all derived from one single one. The idea was that you can compose your own tableware set . I managed to find a few pieces because in the end they were hard to find…

Since the series is no longer in production and because i have a big love for ceramics, it was time to move on. And now Vincent ( i only have one of those ) has a little friend , her name is MUD. You can’t get mud over here so i was very happy to receive it for my birthday from Kelly. Oh and i really love this cup too.

I sort of collect ceramics but mostly things we can use every day or every week. You can see some of it here, here and here. Yes i also collect other things , like glass
And i would like to show you a little bit of our apartment…which explains a bit why i called my blog grijs …. meaning grey.

On the left you can see our clothes cabinet , the structure is really IVAR which frank and i covered with wood and doors and then painted. The handles are IKEA too.
In the right picture you can see a big paper lamp shade , i like big things. The ceiling is luckily high enough so that we don’t bump our heads. What i really wish for is to have lights by Bert-Jan Pot.

I like big wool as well, like in this picture or the work of Hisano Takei
A more practical version of that wood be YOKOO’s. Or hanging on the wall like Nikko Moy’s.

And what i like about the table in the picture above are the legs. They’re designed by GREIGE, we had a carpenter make us a top for it . It’s made of folded steel , a sort of origami for gorillas , but it still has the feel of folded paper.

The other day i saw this table by Aaron Probyn for Habitat… also based on the concept of paper folding …. really like the shape because i like objects that make you think or dream of something else. That it is inspiring to look at.

Again…. this was fun to compile. So many thank yous to Grace.
Tomorrow and Friday will be about places in Amsterdam that make me feel at home.

Its nice to see where you live and how similar in aesthetics your space is to your blog.

Also, I appreciate the mention of my work. As I love your taste, I am glad you like mine.

You *can* get Mud here in the States! Bliss Home, in Boston, carries it. (http://www.blisshome.com/) They special-order from Australia so the products can take a loooooong time to show up (we’re still waiting for ours!), however.
