farewell from the pacific northwest

Before I begin my last post, I’d like to thank everyone for their kind comments and emails. They are much appreciated! I had so much fun gathering things to show you. I’m going to try to start up a blog of my own. Again. Third times a charm… I am in the midst of redesigning my personal web site, and that’s part of the deal. Maybe this was the kick in the pants I needed to get going. So, thanks Grace!

I started yesterday off with a visit to the Egg Press Spring Sample sale. What a great sale!! My friend Bishop (who made the “yeti” painting posted earlier) and I were there right at 10am, and people poured in as we browsed, oohing and ahhing at the abundant tables of cuteness. I grabbed enough cards to cover birthdays and holidays for a year, as well as some great bags of ‘confetti’ – the cutout scraps from the cards with windows. I was thinking a certain someone at Rare Device in San Francisco might be able to use them in her collages (Lisa Congdon, I’m looking in your direction!) The sale continues through Saturday, so if you’re in town, I’d highly suggest stopping by. There will still be plenty to choose from!

Across the way from Egg Press is Ex Libris Anonymous, where I bought two book journals. This one is my fave, with the bear. I added some stems and trees to this page. I love drawing in books! I like how some of the original book pages are stuck in here and there amongst the bank pages. These are really fun, and a good way to give old books some new life. If you have not yet seen them in a store near you, you can get them online here.

Speaking of all this paper, I recently found the Miquelrius GRID IT! Jan Tschichold Notepads at Peter Miller Books in Seattle. The grid is great… perfect for the storyboards I should be working on. I like paper that’s not blaring white, and the soft blue lines are subtle yet very useful. And a mechanical pencils drags nicely across this surface. Always a plus!

Diem Chau told me about a show she will be in called “Devotion to Thread” in Milwaukee, WI. It takes place at Woodland Pattern from May 17-June 13, and has a line-up of truly amazing artists, curated by Faythe Levine. I think I may have to get myself back home for this opening!! I’ve collected some images from the sites of some of the artists showing in this exhibition (the work shown is not particularly what will be in the show). There are links to their work from the Devotion to Thread blog site. I highly suggest looking through them all and expanding your art collection to include embroidered loveliness. Enjoy!

That very first ‘farewell’ photo – do you know what type of flowers / tree that is? I think I may have to put it on my list of possible for my wedding planning. Thanks!
