I have just discovered this restaurant in zona San Lorenzo, if any of you wants to try something new. It's called Said, Antica Fabbrica del Cioccolato, since 1923 in Via Tiburtina, 135. On their website you can already be inspired from the beautiful pictures. The place is fantastic!

As I type I am speaking to my sister who is on a plane about to take off for glorious Rome. I .I just emailed her this list, and have also picked my favorites from my last trip which was ages ago. She is scheming on Porta Portese. My first trip was 21 years ago. One of my most vivid memories is of Poggi and the jars and jars of pigments. I have described that experience to countless art classes I've taught over the years. Can't wait to get back!

Complimenti! My husband is from Roma (Parioli) and we are just now trying to schedule our summer trip/honeymoon there. I will second the suggestion of FORNO for fresh "pizza bianca", especially.

There is a wonderful trattoria called "Cacio e Pepe" (the name of a traditional Roman pasta dish - translates to cheese and pepper). It is at 11 Via Giuseppe Avezzana - on the corner of that and Via Luisa Sanfelice. You eat on streetside tables in a happy, noisy crowd and the fresh egg pasta dishes are to die for.

I am so happy to have this city guide, (as my husband, although adorable...is not of the "designer" variety), so this will come in handy on our next visit!
