vintage pyrex + last day of reader survey

because today is ‘in the kitchen with‘ day (today’s food photography is a must, must-see), i couldn’t resist sharing some gorgeous vintage cook and tableware from white elephant vintage at etsy. i was out of town for their “pyrex spectacular” this weekend but they’ve still got some great (well photographed) pyrex sets kicking around at their etsy shop. now that ac and i are thinking about registries and things like that i find myself wishing i could just register with vintage cookware and baking dishes. maybe one day i’ll wake up and find my dream website where someone had rounded up a registry of my favorite vintage american cookware and some great scandinavian bowls with which i can cook. ah, to dream. in the meantime, you can pick up some great pyrex bowls and vintage tableware right here at white elephant vintage for around $35-$65 a set. [for more pyrex love click here]

[also: today is the final day to fill out the 2008 d*s reader survey and be eligible to win one of four beautiful eco-prints from alena hennessey. click here to fill out the survey- the survey will closet at 1:45 and winners will be announced today at 2pm]

I am a pyrex collecter – by both chance (some of the first household items I owned where a set of pyrex bowls I got as a party gift when I was a teenager – yes some family I have!) and love. I always recomend that anyone intersted in collecting look at there local Salvation Army/Goodwill etc. you can almost always find good items priced undervalue.

i am such a fan of vintage pyrex. I’m not a displayer though. I’m a user. I pick up the covered dishes wherever I find them and put them directly into high rotation in my kitchen. Love when the old ways are the good ways!

Ebay can be another good source; my mom got me a fantastic set of four pyrex bowls dirt cheap this way. The are each a different shade of green and I love them.

Also, just fyi, if you want them to keep their lovely sheen, hand wash. After years of going thru the dishwasher they fade and get quite dull (this happened to my mom’s orange/yellow set similar to the top photo of the post).

Amazing! I’m so glad to see a love for vintage pyrex! I actually own the first pictured set. They were handed down to me from my mom when I left for college. They have probably been used on a daily basis since the day they were bought and are still in stellar condition. Gotta love that pyrex!!

so i know this post was about the pyrex, but i’m a big fan of the frames pictured. I’m always searching for more frames like these (antique markets, ebay, etc) but i’ve had very little luck, can anyone suggest an affordable source to purchase frames like these?

I’ve been using my grandmothers vintage pyrex since i moved out of my parents house when i was 17. I used to loath it when I was a kid, but these days, I am so grateful I kept it. Besides loving the simple funky design, I love that it doesn’t break and I have more then a complete set.

There’s a great little store in downtown Bremerton, WA (just a ferry ride away from Seattle!) that boasts a Pyrex Museum. It’s a wall of Pyrex — definitely a spot for Pyrex touristing! I think the stash is now either in the art gallery at the corner of 4th and Pacific or at Simply Renewed Antiques.

Beautiful photos!

Have you heard of Wishpot.com? I heard about it on someone elses blog… you can register for anything that’s for sale online. When I read this post, I thought of it. :)

We have our Pyrex Museum in Bremerton, WA. I still have yet to visit there. I collect old Pyrex, I love the light turquoise colors from the late 60’s the most! I got VERY lucky one day and found, at Value Village (it’s a second-hand store in town) a Pyrex Flameware 9-cup coffee percolator, in near mint condition (hardly used), all parts present. I paid only $6.00 for it!!!!! Apparently the store price setters had no clue what it was. I have a hard time finding the filters for it, so I got some on eBay. After finding that treasure, my fiancee found me a Flameware teapot to go with my coffee pot.

Another great source of old Pyrex is estate sales. People want to just get rid of their deceased loved one’s possessions and sadly they don’t care what they get for them. Got me a very large brown Cinderella bowl with the gold design on it for 75 cents! I found a child’s circus clown cereal bowl at Goodwill for 99 cents. Can’t locate one on eBay at all. My next quest is to find the turquoise and white refrigerator dishes with the clear ribbed lids. More estate sales and Goodwill trips on my agenda!

Happy collecting!

looking for solid gold colored Pyrex dishes and don’t know what they actually look like. Please send photo if you have these. Guessing the years would have been around 1965
