icff 2008: part four

today i’m going to be wrapping up my coverage of icff 2008. part five will be up later this afternoon, as well as a new diy project and the rest of my surtex coverage. i took over 1300 pictures at the national stationery show, so that doozy will be up thursday and friday- along with the scholarship winners (click here to vote)!

[image above: myto chair by konstantin grcic]

new wallpapers from flavor paper. i know that top shot is a little boob-a-licious but i think it’s hysterical. especially in that hot bright orange.

jacket pillows by xacinto y antonia, at the urbanatics booth.

the z shelf by miron lior was so lovely in person. it was nice to see a slight spin on the idea of sculptural wall shelving.

bradley price design’s angle parking bookcase was so simple and beautiful in person- i had a hard time getting the lighting/color right in this shot so you can see more of his work right here- this would be a fantastic addition to a modern home in need of storage.

amoeba lights from ‘the simple light‘.

rainbow shelving, colorful green stools and a padded bench from barcelona’s rs design.

student design from the california college of the arts booth. the terrariums above are by Liz Boscacci and the chair with newspapers is by designer Kimberly Kulka (i’m trying to find the individual student names for this- will update asap)

i loved the mesh detailing in this steel storage unit from mks design.

playful children’s bedding from litto kids- a great new children’s textile and furniture studio.

i loved this modern dog bed from gaia and gino

design studio bocci created these sockets that can be added easily behind walls to create seamless electrical plugs anywhere on the wall. click here for a video demonstration.

sultry glowing sconces from niche modern.

this faceted wooden table was created by test collective.

i always have a weakness for the swarovski crystal booth- it’s like someone went crazy in there with a giant bedazzling gun.

i love everything about tom dixon and his work- i even loved the shiny gold bag someone stashed at the booth. if there was a tom dixon fan club- i would definitely be the president- or at the very least v.p. oh, to live in his world of shiny metallic objects…

students from the savannah college of art and design created a wonderful collection of sustainable bedding and shelters for the city’s homeless population. designed in conjunction with the ‘growing hope of union mission’, scad students designed these pieces to meet the mission of providing comfort, security and privacy.

beautiful vases from gaia and gino.

I really appreciated the student project on sustainable housing for the homeless. I’ve seen other projects with similar objectives — including at my own school, I believe — and I think that’s a great testament to the power and influence designers can have if they want to effect a positive change in the world.

I went to the ICFF too and fell in love with Flavor Paper. It’s so witty, yet beautiful…love the fun contemporary twist on something traditional!
