look what I found in the trash!

My friends Dave and Abi are junk collector connoisseurs. Dave prowls the streets every trash night looking for treasures other people didn’t want. I don’t think he’s ever come to my house without something in hand he would find on the walk over. Their collection spans from old hand-painted signs and mannequin heads to vintage pinball games and anatomical school charts. On every visit to his house I marvel at the new piece they’ve added to their collection and we stand around shaking our heads- I can’t believe someone threw that out. Their apt is only a 300 sq ft studio in a fancy Brooklyn Heights building. Their bed is lofted and with their couch underneath it creates a comfy nook where you can relax your eyes on hundreds on tiny toys in type drawers. Here are some little vignettes from their place:

Dave and Abi are getting married next month.

Dave has always had a crush on Snow White. Abi just happens to have an uncanny resemblance to her.

Remember that clock from elementary school?

They made this coffee table from an old pinball machine.

Lots of type drawers full of tiny toys.

A salvaged aisle 5 from the recently burned down Gristede’s supermarket in his neighborhood.

We’ve lived with this since Dave was in the 8th grade and still have a shrine in our home. Glad that others have recognized his creativity.

man, why didn’t I marry a chick who’d let me keep junk I found on the street?

While my finds aren’t quite the caliber of those Dave and Abi have discovered, I nevertheless understand the thrill of saving something cool from utter ruin — in my case, a few lovely jars-cum-candleholders.

Thanks for posting! What a great space.

I am so blessed to have David’s parents as my friends. I can see that he shares in both their talents. Thank you for sharing these fabulous pictures with me!

Wow. We are also proud to claim David and (almost) Abi as our niece and nephew. Having seen these pics, we now know why it was suggested that the most appropriate wedding gift might just be cash! Crystal? China? I guess not! Hugs

What a bunch of great stuff! The amazing thing is, it all appears to be well-organized. I, too, am proud to claim Dave and Abi as my niece and nephew.

I bet they will find creative ways to display their wediing photo’s using these found treasures too! Hope they post those pics!
They are both extremely talented & very obviously in love. That in itself is a true joy! God Bless!
