before and after: amy’s chairs

artist amy rice is about to have an exhibition with one of her favorite artists, terrence payne. she recently redid a set of chairs for the exhibition and thought they’d be fun for the before & after column. i couldn’t agree more- i love the way the wallpaper style painting echoes the wall in the back. thanks, amy! (more photos here)

[stay tuned for two extra sneak peeks tomorrow!]

I love seeing all of these befores and afters. They are very inspiring and make me want to go to my local flea markets to find pieces that I can also rejuvenate!

I would love to hear how people come across the pieces that reupholster and renovate.

Those chairs are luverly. I’ve been eyeballing a chair that someone put out for naught in my neighborhood, wondering if I could be as crafty as this! I think of this site every time I drive by it!

This is a really great look–especially the vines,
but I also regret that a set of mission style chairs with leather seats were the subject, especially when ratty ones can be found so easily.

Oof, now I’m wishing I hadn’t taken those decent-but-ratty oak kitchen chairs to goodwill… I think I liked the original leather seats on these, though.

Can anyone tell me where to get that large damask stencil used on the background wall? I am assuming its a stencil…. I’d LOVE to have one!!!

I love Amy Rice, she has shown twice at the gallery I manage and is the most wonderful artist to work with. It’s good to see her work posted every time!

Thanks Grace for posting the pic’s and links!
Thanks all for the nice comments.
Katie: I cut the damask stencil myself.
Jen O: not real leather seats, the chairs were in pretty poor shape to begin with.
