I love the checker board floor. It reminds me of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

I’ve actually been there and it looks exactly the same as it did 50 years ago. I HIGHLY recommend it!!! It’s beautiful and they have awesome spa treatments!

Amazingly, I had never heard of Dorothy Draper until a year ago, when I came across a local auction selling some of her Greenbrier furniture. Now I’m obsessed! Besides her fabulous eye for style, she was a first-rate entrepreneur and as well known as Martha Stewart in her day.

I’m halfway through reading one of her recently re-released books, “Entertaining is Fun!”, and it’s a complete delight. Can’t wait to pick up “Decorating is Fun!” as well.

Oh this reminds me of going there when I was younger! My family used to have shareholders’ meetings there for their company. It was always such a big deal to get dressed up and wander around.

Kadeedy, the walls in that photo are a super dark green, not black and they are still spectacular…Dorothy Draper designed the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island as well…There is a beautiful coffee table book “In the Pink” and there’s also a fun little book “365 Shortcuts to Home Decorating” you can find on E-Bay sometimes…Benjamin Moore paint also has a “Dorothy Draper Collection” you can channel your inner decorator. I painted my laundry room her famous yellow and it is smashing, and takes the drudgery out of an otherwise dreary task!
