Merci beacoup, Grace, for hosting my posts this week. Thanks also to everyone who let me interview them; my questions were often intrusive and I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on being in the business of being creative with everyone. And a very special thanks to all you readers, especially for your sweet comments and kind emails.
Before I go back to my “real life” at delphine and blogging on my new little blog, here’s a bit of last minute advice to all of you who are thinking of getting into this crazy “creative business” from some of the people I interviewed this week:
Jennifer & Alan: “a design business is a whole lot more than just making pretty things”
Joan: “go with your gut … follow your heart, manage your cash flow, delegate when you need to, and pursue the dream”
Michael: “don’t check email after hours” (or while on vacation); and “have a point of view, stick to it”
Brian: “pay attention to your mistakes. They force you out of the box you’re in. Mistakes are often just the break you were looking for”
Me (Erika): Be true to yourself. Never compromise your integrity or your product quality. Know what you want and go for it. Be nice. Play fair. Stealing ideas is bad Karma. Have fun and be prepared to WORK.
