this weekend i hopped in a car with julia and caitlin to go check out day one of the renegade craft fair in williamsburg, brooklyn. unfortunately, like last year, the weather conspired to sweat all of us out of there earlier than we hoped, but fortunately, unlike last year, i felt that the show was delightfully free of rows filled entirely with bird-printed tote bags. not that a few birds are a sin, but it was nice to see some new things floating around and meet some great new companies. after an hour or so my camera started to melt into my hand so i tried to photograph as many booths as possible- and over the next two posts i’ll be sharing my favorites from the show. thanks to everyone who put up with us sweating in their booths and thanks to julia for waiting for me while i ran around like a looney trying to photograph as many booths as possible. [i’m going to be in SF for their local renegade festival in july so stay tuned for that next month!]

i was thrilled to meet a lot of great designers at this year’s renegade but the one that stuck with me the most this year was sycamore street press. i’m a stationery junkie so sycamore’s booth was like paper heaven for me. i loved all the hand-written banners on their cards and the colorful floral gift tags. i can’t wait to see more from this columbus ohio studio- i’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot (i mean a lot) more of them in the future. click here to read sycamore street designer eva jorgensen’s blog. (eva told me the cakestand she made above was inspired by kate’s diy project from a few weeks ago!)

beautiful tote bags and handmade pet ‘portraits’ from brooklyn designer sian keegan. the first dog above was inspired by julia rothman’s precious pup rudy.

i loved these little fabric owl cut-outs at the happy owl glass booth. so fun for craft projects…

treats from one of everyone’s favorite booths- something’s hiding in here. that’s stephen (i’m so bummed i missed shauna!) hiding behind the moustache sticks. i loved the glittery forget-me-not elephants.

wooden whale boards, wooden yo-yos and moustache key holders from ben floeter. ben’s talented wife, natalie wright, was one of our 2007 d*s scholarship winners!

lovely cards from screech owl design…

megan auman’s beautiful jewelry- it matched the ikea curtains in the back so perfectly.

lovely works on paper from tara at ink + wit.

i’m so bummed i totally melted before i got to take photos of chez sucre chez’s embroidered hangings. they are so, so cute in person. the perfect “just because” or housewarming gift.
