savannah: i do

last night i returned after a wonderful weekend spent in sunny (and humid!) savannah. after weeks of emails and calls we finally have a location set for our ceremony and reception! hooray! i can’t tell you how stressful that was. any of you who’ve planned a wedding before will definitely understand how i feel. as someone who is admittedly a bit of a control freak (i can hear ac saying “a bit?”) it’s been really tough to put a lot of my trust in people and places that are hundreds of miles away. but thankfully everyone there has been really friendly and helpful. i’m trying to work with as many local artists as possible to do the decorations so hopefully it will be a big celebration of all things savannah. here’s a little peek into some scenes from my trip, including a little peek into where i will officially become mrs. ac.

[i loved this modern gold house number on this incredibly ornate old home (see full photo above). it was such a cool contrast to all of the intense iron work on the facade]

[gold numbered bottles at liz demos’ fabulous shop, at home: vintage general]

[the scene above our heads as we say “i do”]

[silly, i know, but i loved the iron letters on the carriage house bathrooms where our reception will be]

[scroll work on the porch at our reception site]

[our wedding tree: i can’t wait to decorate the tree and hang a beautiful floral wreath or ribbons from it]

[our secret garden: this door leads to the garden where our reception will be held]

[detail of the iron work on the gate]

It’s going to be beautiful, to be sure! And you’ll get through the stress of it… I promise!

Oh m’goodness! A Savannah weddin’? Why it’s just too perfect, Grace darlin’! (Okay…lame attempt at an internet Southern accent…couldn’t help myself.) Cannot imagine a nicer setting for your wedding. The “wedding tree” is spectacular looking! It’s going to be a stellar event…I am certain of that.

(Design note: LOVE that green ceiling!)

I was so pleased to see your recent post about Savannah! I’ve been living in Savannah for over six years now and the images you showcased are a perfect representation of this charming city. I am also a fellow bride to be and will be tying the knot in Sav come November. If you are ever in need of someone to seek out a venue or vendor, please let me know…I’d be happy to help! ( Liz D. is a close friend…I’m so happy you highlighted @ home!)

Gorgeous wedding location, especially the spanish moss growing on the oak trees. As a New Orleanian, this is one of my favorite scenes. Fabulous choice.

oh it will be so gorgeous! i love the spanish moss - i got married in Charleston last year underneath a massive live oak w/ spanish moss. it was so romantic and ethereal. i miss it so - we moved from Charleston soon after the wedding. your wedding will be beautiful, please keep sharing!

Beautiful! I got married in Savannah also. (and I lived there for 4 yrs. while I went to SCAD) actually the building peeking over the top of the other building in your tree photo is where I lived the first year! If you want any restaurant or other shopping recommendations just let me know. There are some really great things you just shouldn’t miss down there. Congrats!

My sister who just moved to Brooklyn!! — also just got engaged. I CANNOT wait to help with the planning - seeing all of your wedding ideas and passion for design incorporated within that is so much fun! A secret garden for the reception? Ribbons and lights hanging from old trees with Spanish moss?? Love every ounce of it!

Be careful w/ the vintage general pic. When I asked permission to take pictures for my blog in there a few months ago, I was told that the owner had an exclusive deal as a stylist for some magazine (one I don’t really like but I can’t remember, like Better Homes and Gardens or something like that) and that pictures were forbidden. It made no sense to me, why pass up free positive publicity, but just thought I’d pass the info along to you. She is an AMAZING merchandiser - I love that shop.

No need to publish this comment, just wanted to give you a heads up!

sounds like you’re going to have a beautiful and memorable wedding!

I am sure Savannah will be a great place to get married, all that beautiful Spanish moss. I visited once about 5 years ago and it was memorable as a spot where I fell off my bike and was rescued by 2 policemen!

I am sure it’ll be the perfect place for a wedding - just watch out for those tram tracks!

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! What a beautiful place. The planning IS stressful, even if you live in the same city where you’re getting married. Just remember all the people you’ve hired are pros–they do this all the time. Hopefully that will make it a little easier for you.

CLARIFICATION:

Hey Grace! First of all, it was NOT Liz herself whom I asked, it was a VERY cool and friendly staffer who was really nice about it and sent us to the amazing bakery at the other end of town that I always forget the name of but still dream about. Second, Liz just emailed me to explain (wow, that was impressively fast!) and said that she would not have turned down photography for a design blog. Now I feel really badly about saying I don’t like BH&G. I guess I find it geared more toward more traditional mom types and not single funky gals like myself.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to warn you because the explanation I did receive at the time had to do with the exclusive rights a magazine had to Liz’s mad styling skillz, and I didn’t want you to get in trouble. Turns out it’s all moot at this point! Snap away at Vintage General!

I know exactly what you mean by stressful, being in the midst of planning a long-distance wedding myself from here in San Francisco for back home in Dallas. Finding, choosing and booking locations has truly been the most difficult part!

Your location is sooo pretty. I can totally understand the relief in booking a location and date for the wedding. I felt a million times better once I had that checked off of my list.

like Em, i also lived in that building my first year @ SCAD. and i could tell you some crazy stories about that square! my favorite being the filming of a movie with me swimming in the fountain surrounded by about a hundred rubber duckies. god, i miss college . . .

hopefully, you will have just as much fun on your wedding day as we did on that day ;)

Savannah is such a beautiful place, I know I lived there for seven years before leaving for Chicago. If you’re still down there I would suggest trying a awesome lunch counter called Zunzi’s (http://www.zunzis.com/). I can’t even describe the food because it is amazing, I used to eat there all the time, and every one was so friendly. Try the African Sweet tea. Congrats on finding a venue for the big day.

Hi! Congratulations! I just got married in Savannah on 5/24 at the Mansion on Forsyth Park… it was absolutely amazing. I planned the wedding from NYC, so I know what you mean about planning and not being in the same city. I’d love to be of assistance in any way if you need advice/input on anything - feel free to email me and I can send you our slideshow, etc. You’re going to have the most magical wedding! (PS the first photo of this post, the Noble Hardee Mansion - we got engaged right in front of it)
