I am a native of SD and I was a loyal patron of that wonderful restaurant until I moved to the east coast. It's in downtown, so you could go there for lunch or dinner after touring the rest of downtown. Oooo. Another great eating place is Hodad's in Ocean Beach at 5010 Newport Avenue. It has a great atmosphere, and the burgers and malts are delicious. Go down to the beach after a burger to walk off some calories!
