The best place to eat for vegetarian/vegan food is Pokez mexican food at 947 E Street. I am a native of SD and I was a loyal patron of that wonderful restaurant until I moved to the east coast. It's in downtown, so you could go there for lunch or dinner after touring the rest of downtown. Oooo. Another great eating place is Hodad's in Ocean Beach at 5010 Newport Avenue. It has a great atmosphere, and the burgers and malts are delicious. Go down to the beach after a burger to walk off some calories!

The City Guides are Wonderful!

Naomi - the picture was taken from Coronado.

Laurel is no longer around, same owners, same location, new restaurant: Cucina Urbana
http://www.sdurbankitchen.com/cucina-urbana.html

Belly Up is a great place for live music, also on Cedros in Solana Beach.

Balboa Park is a must see design destination, full of museums, gardens, and restaurants, like:
Prado:

One of my favorite places to eat in SD: Waters Cafe

While this might have been a good scratch at the surface, I feel like this post is already outdated, and missing quite a bit of San Diegos finest diy boutiques, and I think a handful of those places on the list may have moved/gone out of business.

What exact spot is that on the main beginning picture? I live in City Heights, and have never found such great location to take a photo with such beautiful background.

Great guide - but I MUST include Rusty Creek in Fallbrook (North County).

I can always find something that seems like it was designed just for me! HUGE old barn and yard full of amazing design. Vintage or Modern - they've got it!
