before and after: jess’s radio table

after8.jpg
d*s reader jess in austin sent along this great radio table before and after. jess explained that she found this piece on the side of the road and picked it up. then she grabbed a $5 can of mis-matched lime green paint from home depot and repainted the piece for a new look. the radio instead still works so now jess has an updated piece of furniture that only cost her $5. great work, jess!

The color is great, and up against that purple wall it’s just beautiful and fun.

What an awesome find. I wish I randomly found stuff like that on the side of the road!

I love love love the lime green juxtaposed against the eggplant wall. Beautiful!

The “after” is beautiful, although I suspect it took more than $5 and one coat of spraypaint to get to that point. Sanding seems like a good idea for such a project, plus the mesh panels were replaced or somehow updated. Anyway, I love the end result!

SO cool! I’d never think (and probably never have the guts) to use a color that bright.

Good eye. There are always crazy pieces of furniture on Craigslist for a song, I need to start thinking in lime green!

This color may not have looked great in the can, but it looks awesome on this table!

That looks absolutely stunning. The color combination there is out of this world. Great work. (If only I could pull off the same kind of bold decor…)

August 28th, 2008 - 4:53 pm

Wow! I love the color she chose!

Wow. I have an old stereo cabinet I’ve been trying to unload on Craigslist. Never thought of painting it until now…Nice!

That lime against the deep purple is amazing. It’s a timely reminder for me to not to play it too safe!

I love it!
Just a note that I have been meaning to comment on, I think it makes more cognitive sense to have the before shot first then followed by the after. As the title is “before and after” - but what we get is the after first then the before…anyway just something that has bugged me for some time :) p.s I do love this website!

So inspiring! I think I have to go on a fleemarket hunt soon!

This gives me motivation to resurface an old buffet I received from my grandmother. Anyone have suggestions on how to paint over chipped veneer?

Gorgeous. Eye-poppingly gorgeous. This DIY is a jillion times nicer than anything you’d see in a store. Go Jess!

She didn’t sand it or anything?
Can you do that?
If so I am painting everything in my house?

Great redo!
It’s always amazing to me what a good coat of paint can do. This color really brought out all the cute details in this piece like the spindle legs and the columns on the front. This is the modern style that some stores charge huge prices for!

That’s wonderful. I love restoration projects. Often old pieces just need a little love. That piece really pops. Great job to her!

Love the colour! Did the same with my TV cabinet I found on the side of the rd. A nick of paint and a good scrub works wonders! Stunning!

Yes, to answer Suzie’s question–I did sell it on craigslist! I am what some might call a “furniture flipper” :)

It’s back up on Craigslist–just saw it prior to browsing designsponge. Apparently it didn’t work in the buyer’s space–wish i had room for it! Such a fun piece!

Yeah, I just saw it back up on craigslist, too! I was sad to hear it didn’t work in the space the woman bought it for :( I hope someone else gets to enjoy it!
