fiona winzar architects

lately i’ve been paying more and more attention to architecture. after spending the last two years in an apartment with room shapes and walls that make no sense at all (why would anyone make a hallway door that is less than 2 feet wide?) i’ve really come to appreciate great architectural planning. so i was psyched to see the work of architect fiona winzar land in my inbox yesterday. fiona is an architect who also specializes in interiors and runs a firm outside of melbourne, australia (click here for anne’s recent regional roundup on melbourne). fiona winzar architects have done a wide range of work including residential and commercial projects- each one lovelier than the next. i’m particularly fond of the cafe/coffee shop and modern, angular “eyelid” house. click here to view more of fiona’s projects and read more about her work. [thanks, fiona!]

Wow, I want one of these houses. I am envious of that kitchen!

As someone who is starting her 11th year in architecture school, I’m ELATED to see this beautiful work. Keep the architecture posts coming!

Wow. Stunningly angular and yet approachable. Love the simple lines and shapes — that form the stranger, more complex lines and shapes! Also love the varying materials, and the tasteful colors.

The house reminds me a bit of those wonderful Japanese modern small houses (like those from the book The very small home) that one can’t build over here :(
Very tempting…

Love the architecture posts too.

You should check Japanese architecture; they have so little space, they have to think outside the box to fit tiny but incredibly smart houses in between buildings. I fell in love with their designs.

There is something about those horizontal slats that I love. Whether it’s at the Houston’s Restaurant in Santa Monica or Anthropolgie, the slats are such an organically, beautiful architectural element.

As soon as I glanced at these pics I thought “this has to be in Australia” so I quickly scrolled through the text and sure enough! Something about the style, the people & the light is distinctly Aussie (in a good way!)
