studio printworks

kiki1.jpg
right now it seems like the design world is still deep in its love affair with wallpaper. i’m sure in a few years we’ll look back and long for something slightly less pattern-oriented but for now, i’m enjoying all of the options that keep coming out. these new designs the red and orange design below is by kiki smith for studio printworks. i love all of the bold color and pattern- for me, they’d be best in a small room like a bathroom. i really enjoy bold pattern used in a small space- it always gives that room a jewel-box effect. in addition to kiki’s work above and below, the last image is a new studio printworks paper called “memento mori”- which will be on display at R 20th century gallery (82 franklin street) in manhattan tonight. click here for more information on studio printworks. [thanks, priscilla!]

there is something so magical about wallpaper. it can transform a room into anything you want!

These product shots are really interesting, especially like the first few. The plaid dude and the safari man look a little miserable, though. It’s funny and cheeky but it also kinda puts a bummer affect on the papers.

i think all of these product shots are amazing. i think since there is such a huge influx of wonderful wallpapers out there that anything you can do to make yours stand apart is a smart idea. i love it, i wouldn’t change a thing with these shots. i wish more designers would take this bold approach with product photography.

just to clarify, only the maiden moonflower (owl) pattern is by kiki smith? although the dude in the kilt kind of has a matthew barney thing going on.

Studio Printworks has a yellow and brown pineapple print that I’ve been in love with forever.

i love kiki smith and would d-i-e to hang her artwork or designs in my apartment, but i’m pretty sure that only the second picture you display is her work. her style is so recognizable.

I guess, Sarah, but it’s something about those 2 shots that make the product look dated already. And it’s probably just my impression of them, anyway. They look tired and sad, the decor and the models. But again, that’s just my personal take.

I am a victim of this very trend. Somehow I just can’t stop myself…

These are such exciting patterns! I just saw some sinister-sweet Kiki Smith prints at Larissa Goldston Gallery and thought it would be a blast to hang anything by her on my walls!

I’m loving the skully floral in mustard and metallic(?). Just an fyi – part of the text on the post is reading as strikethrough (crossed out), not sure if that’s just on my system though.

that wallpaper is fantastic! I am imagining those rooms with an off-white paint and drawing a comparison (there is none).

What a clever way to sell wallpaper.

I’m really digging that last one with the subtle skull. Unfortunately, my landlord doesn’t even accept paint on the walls, so wallpaper-out of the question. Totally agree with Alison on that Matthew Barney thing too! I had to do a double take on that one. :P

Where can I find the wallpaper on the scotch-drinking, kilted man’s wall?

Yes, the wallpapers are nice, but give me that kilted Scotsman instead! Yum! ;)
