hellooooo, gorgeous

leanne1.jpg
i promise i’m not going to say anything about the winner or loser of last night’s project runway (finale, part one), but i have to talk about that wedding dress that leanne designed. i’ve liked leanne (or “the portland girl” as she’s called around my house) from the start and have loved watching her style develop over the course of the show. and when she brought her wedding dress from the rack over to tim for examination i thought i was going to fall off the couch. i’ve been wedding dress hunting for nearly 6 months (i changed my mind about the first dress) and i can tell you this is easily the most gorgeous dress i’ve seen all summer and fall. the shape, the folds, the pockets!, the drama of the silhouette- it’s fantastic. if i was as tall as leanne’s model i would be calling her right now to ask if i can order a custom version of this dress for my wedding in april. seriously, how painfully gorgeous is this dress? the only sad thing is that i have a sneaking suspicion it would look rather bad on a person of a height and weight similar to mine. darn those tall-girl dresses. anyway, click here to check out leanne’s designs and my apologies for the hastily taken tv-shots from last night.

ps: did you know you can view the final collections on the bryant park runway already (i can’t bring myself to look)? why on earth did they do this? more weinstein drama?

I am right there with you!!! Her architectural details blow my mind! How she mad that dress, I’ll never know, but I wanted to be the model gracing that runway when I watched last night.

You can view the final collections already because Bryant Park has already happened. When the schedule for the show’s taping doesn’t line up with Fashion Week, they go ahead and let EVERYONE who is still in the show in airing-time do a show. Joe and Suede also did shows during Fashion Week this year. This is so the fashion press will not spoil the progress of the show by reporting the three finalists. But I love looking at the collections online!

It’s always been the case (every season) that the final designers’ collections are available for viewing within hours of them going down the runway at Bryant Park. The press/media is there, and they take photos and do writeups! That’s why there’s always at least one “decoy” collection (this year, there were three — Joe, Suede, and Jerell) in the actual runway show, because the episodes in which those designers were eliminated had not yet been broadcast.

(Go, go, Leanne!! Yes, the wedding dress was INCREDIBLE — and I don’t even like the whole concept of wedding dresses!)

Oh, I can not see Project Runway here in Spain but I have been suscribed to Leanne’s Etsy shop since I can remember! I love her designs so much and I have always told her that anytime I’ve received her email saying there were new aditions in her shop then when I’ll go to the shop it was empty again!! She sold out everything in less than one day!
She’s a great designer and I am so happy she’s having such a success in the show!
I truly adore the wedding dress too!

i know the collections run prior to the final show airing, but has bravo always linked to photos of them? i guess i don’t remember that. i remember them being available on ny magazine’s site last year, but that’s it.

I LOVED her dress!!! Oh I was hoping to hear more about it today! The shape was so fantastic! What is Leann’s Etsy shop called? I would love to see some more of her stuff outside of the show.

Wow, that is gorgeous! Go LeAnne! I didn’t know she had an Etsy shop!

She is truly talented and my favorite on Project Runway.

Leanne’s wedding dress is absolutely fabulous. I was thinking last night (’cause I’m rather vertically challenged as well) that for a short girl, it might look fabulous with just the first tier of “waves.” Still might be an option for you, Grace…

If you really wanted to go for a custom version of this, I think if you removed the top tier entirely and left the floor-length skirt, the beautiful detail would remain in a proportion that would suit a petite frame. Gotta keep those pockets, though. :)

I was surprised at how good it looked on the model after seeing it on the rack.

Kenley’s dress was stunning. I also felt sorry for her after seeing she had no support group behind her. It might explain why she can be catty at times.

Leanne’s collection is absolutely awesome. Her design’s are fun, feminine, they just make drool.

And Kenley’s designs weren’t bad either.

Julia said:

I was praying that she’d put a zipper in there so the bride could have it long for the wedding ceremony and dinner then zip off the bottom when it was time to for dance.

I ‘m a Kenley fan too. She’s terrible, we know, but we all have to work with Kenleys. The silent treatment isn’t cool.

And I wont’ talk about winners or losers, but that was a catty closing shot, right? Meow.

October 9th, 2008 - 12:01 pm

Oh my gosh! Were those dresses beautiful or what? I also loved Kenley’s dresses. I’m torn between the two. I know Kenley is annoying, but I really like her clothes, so I’m not sure who I want to win! I am really excited about the final runway show, though. Most of the time, I think the final show is disappointing, but this year I think both Leanne and Kenley have really strong collections!

Leanne’s dress was my hands down favorite this time.

October 9th, 2008 - 1:03 pm

I agree, we were all ooohing over the wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses. There was a lot of drama in the room regarding wearing a wedding dress the length that Kenley’s was, which suprised me (since I was hanging out with my tattooed, freaky, untraditional friends!) Love the poofy tea length, and I adored her dress way beyond Christian Siriano’s entire collection in the previous season.
Leanne, though, Leanne (who we also refer to as “the Portland girl”)… I swear I want her to fashion me entire wardrobes of clothes. LOVE it!

Katie said:

I think if you had a shorter version of this dress (without the bottom tier) it would look amazing on a petite frame! Although a short wedding dress is definitely a decision….

Okay, I’ve never seen a single episode until last night, and I confess I was flipping back and forth between Project Runway and Hannah Montana (you know you love it too) and I didn’t even LIKE this dress when I first saw it, BUT OMG IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. I’m really glad Korto didn’t leave because in that short time I came to like her a lot — and actually I thought her dresses were pretty nice, although not as good as the rest of her collection and I could see the judges points about overwrought/unrelated.

BUT YEAH, these dresses were stunning.

Kristan said:
October 9th, 2008 - 1:37 pm

Hmm, okay, I take it back: I just went to see Korto’s collection and it wasn’t as nice as what I remembered from the in-progress footage (during Tim Gunn’s visit)… :\ Well I still liked her personality, but yeah, Leanne’s clothes were the only ones I really liked!

Betsy said:

That is a fantastic dress! Now i’m sad I haven’t been able to watch this season of PR! Being a shorty soon-to-be bride myself, I have to share that I found vintage totally the way to go–it seems to fit better and the cuts of the dresses are so much more interesting!

October 9th, 2008 - 3:13 pm

Has anyone seen the Alexander McQueen dress? I hate to say it, but it’s nearly identical to Kenley’s, although I think I like Kenley’s dress better!

I was the same way last night. Uh-mazing dress. And since I’m already married, I’m trying to sneak my way into a wedding and suggest the bridesmaid’s dress for the party. Really, she’s amazing, and I’ve been rooting for her from the start. And it’s TORTURE not clicking on that link to see the final collections! I’m not sure I can wait a week. Brutal.

I saw an even better quality slide show of the finalists work at NY Fashion week on the NYT website.

here:

Under the “Designers” tab pick “Project Runway”, really nice stuff!

October 9th, 2008 - 5:50 pm

GRACE! in regards to the tall girl wedding dresses… ;-[) I agree..that dress is definitely for someone with height...however, being that I am studying fashion [Senior at Parsons right now] I would have to say that you could easily wear that same dress but with a ever so slightly silhouette and a lighter weight fabric. The top is especially gorgeous and I think girls who are shorter [myself included] look FANTASTIC in strapless dresses! ;) Don’t ever let height and weight get in the way of a design you like, just teeny tiny adjustments need to be made, that is all! I think you would look great in that dress, you should do it. And what a great support for Leanne too! ;-)

hey grace!

maybe Leanne could design something else for you, to fit your petite body.

I’m glad some commentors cleared up the final runway show question for me. I was really wondering how the press kept from leaking the finalists early.

I’m bummed that Jerell didn’t make it. Sorry, guys, but Kenly sucks!

Grace, I agree with the others. You could pull it off, at least a slightly modified version of it.

Also, we call her the portland girl here at home too. Love the portland girl! xo

Randi said:

Grace, if you love this gown, you should absolutely go for something similar. I am getting married next summer and I just bought my dress and it has a similar silhouette to Leanne’s. Also: I’m barely 5′2′. The dress is custom and it has not just two, but three tiers in the skirt, and it still looks great on little old me. If the proportions are done right, it can actually work on a petite frame. If you are looking for something with a tiered skirt, Monique Lhuillier has a very modern version. At least you could try that one on and get an idea. Good luck!

I was going to post about how happy I was that everyone wasn’t ragging on Kenley - and then people did. It’s a show people - edited to create a narrative - and a villain(ess).

Leannes middle school sniping asides and shunning wasn’t all that swell either. I expect that behaviour from a 13 yr old, not an adult. Ganging up on someone - not cool.

I loved both dresses. And if people want to talk about the McQueen thing - they should also mention that Leanne’s looks a lot like the work of a few Japanese designers - it happens in fashion. Stop judging so harshly everyone.

suz

no offense, but if anyone embodied 13 year maturity on the show, it was kenley. her laughing, snide comments and overall lack of respect for authority figures was endlessly disappointing.

i thought her collection was beautiful, if a bit costumey, but i would never, ever work with her with an attitude like that.

Suz said:

Monique Lhuillier did show the same silhouette without the asian petals/pleating detail - I am sure you will be able to find this in a more (petite) flattering form. I to love the pleating, the effect is so stunning - but I don’t think it would work on the average female body - sigh…

Suz said:
October 23rd, 2008 - 4:50 pm

Actually, I thought Korto was the only grownup on the show towards the end. Maybe it was her age and the fact that she is a mother. I though tKenely and Leanne were flip sides of the same coin - one overtly annoying, the other passive aggressive. I didn’t care for either’s attitude. And editing really does play a huge part in this. Think back to last years show, Drama needs to be a part of the show - it’s key in fact.

But both had wonderful work.

Suz said:

No offense taken at all. (you don’t have to post my comments by the way - I am just getting annoyed at all of the bashing so am venting a bit). We don’t know these people after all. Ganging up on someone is just mean when we don’t know the whole story. Reality TV is about editing.. Just my opinion.
