Secret Headquarters

Pssssst… hey you…. come a little closer, we’ve got a secret for you…..

It’s the final stop on our tour, The Secret Headquarters. You probably never thought you would see a comic book shop on a design blog but you have never seen a comic book shop like Secret Headquarters. First off, let’s start with the name… is that the best name in the world for a comic book shop or what? Designed to resemble a traditional library and have the feel of a classic gentleman’s club, it is refreshingly warm and inviting. Owners Dave Pifer and Dave Ritchie have carefully edited their selection of not only comic books but art books and graphic novels. They have successfully bridged the gap between self described comic nerds and hipsters. Everyone enjoys a trip to The Secret Headquarters.

Believe it or not.. the 2 Daves started out wanting to open a skate shop..Though we’re pretty sure that anything they do would be fantastic, we’re really glad they started out with this idea…. by the way… they also host monthly art shows too.

The idea is great, but the execution could use some more panache… the walls and ceiling could be done in a darker color to resemble a club more. Love the leather armchairs at the front! The flooring looks awesome too!

The decor is cute, only because it is a comic book store. But as a comic book store? Pretty much worthless.

I have been in there exactly once, for one of the admittedly cool art shows and I will never return. The selection was middling even for the “art” books and the people behind the counter were annoying and condescending about books I was purchasing. Now, it might just have been that one guy behind the counter, but the owners are responsible for who they hire.

For anyone seriously into comics or graphic novels, avoid. My friends do.
