tying the knot: alyson fox’s wedding

today i’m thrilled to share a special sneak peek into the wedding of artist alyson fox and her new husband, derek dollahite (you may remember derek’s brother’s sneak peek). ashley garmon and emily joyce of ashley garmon photographers, who shot the wedding, were kind enough to share all of her photos and i couldn’t resist sharing them here, too. the day looks so special i thought i’d just let the pictures do the talking. there are so many incredible ideas here to apply to special events of all types (i love the origami paper on the grass). [thanks, ashley and emily!]

The white pumpkins are so perfect for this October wedding, which really eludes a sort of no nonsense, sensible, earthy vibe. I like that Alyson Fox.

Beautiful wedding. I love her natural bouquet and the RING!! It’s gorgeous! … any info as to where it came from?

November 12th, 2008 - 12:49 pm

Hi Everyone. Thank you so much for the sweet comments. We just got back from our honeymoon so it’s fun to relive the day. It all happened so fast for me and is a bit of a overwhelming, but beautiful blur. Ashley and Emily did such an amazing job and made us feel so comfortable with it all. The holga images are amazing! to answer some questions :
The ring is made from a dear person and talented designer Cyrus Shennum. It was reworked from a vintage setting using mixed metals so I could layer them up. The engagement ring is really cool as well. His e-mail address is: cshennum@gmail.com
The dress on the bottom is made from an emergency jump parachute from world war 2 that I got off e-bay years ago. I was drawn to the lovely pattern in the silk ( they were all silk back then) and all the industrial seams and strings. The top of it is made from sections of a vintage kimono from the 40’s. It has lovely little sketches of birds and bunnies scattered on it. The most amazing person made the dress for me. Shauna Smith at “first samples”. She was so patient and enthusiastic to keep making changes to it until it was just right. I love it and owe her my first born.
Thanks again everyone!

These images left a little tingle at the ends of my fingers.. but the last image of the disembodied dress lurking in the staircase made my sole grow ever so slightly….undoubtedly, the pinnacle of something beyond brilliant. HooAH AGP! You make me proud.

dea

we’re happy to post any wedding that we feel has beautiful design aspects that would be of interest to this site.

though wedding content is not a main focus here (we’ve done 12 wedding-related posts in 4 years), no same sex couples have agreed to my request to run their weddings, nor have any submitted their own photos, so if you have one to suggest, please be my guest.

we did run a great wedding topper DIY project from a same-sex couple if you’re interested in that. but almost all of our wedding posts have been related to crafts or decoration- which do not exclude same-sex couples in any way.

Hi Lisa,
I designed the “tying the knot “cards for our invite. Sesame letterpress in Brooklyn letter pressed them. I”m glad that you like them.
