2008 gift guide: bloggers’ wish list

last year i asked some of my favorite art and design bloggers to share their wish lists for christmas gifts. their ideas certainly helped me with my shopping and i’m hoping that they’ll be just as helpful this year. for 2008 i asked which gifts each blogger would like to give and receive, so read on below to see what they had to say this year. the list (and gift ideas) continue well after the jump so click here to see the full list (or just click “read more” at the bottom of this post). thank you to everyone who participated this year! (all of the images above are referenced and linked to below in the bloggers’ entries)

[stay tuned for ac's guy's gift guide next!]

blogger: sarah of cursive
to give: faceted white wood rocks from kindling, i’m giving homemade ornaments this year to my loved ones with written messages hidden insidethem listing reasons why they are special to me with a card listing what i wrote
to receive: a warm white and black plaid blanket to stay warm this winter, hot cocoa mug

blogger: courtney of style court
to give: a donation to an organization like meals on wheels
to receive: a red velvet cake and hand-blocked cotton kitchen towels or mitts from elizabeth james (her towels are $8 each. would be great paired with a cookbook!)

blogger: camilla engman
to give: one of mimi kirchners ‘tiny worlds‘ to my mum, and i would love to have one myself or one of her tattooed men, this wood print by bryan nash would be perfect for my husband, and i’d like to give nigel peake’s maps book to someone.
to receive: for myself i wish, any of the above, more time, the ability to concentrate, not so much rain. and if it doesn’t rain so much i hope i’ve got this firefork to bring out in the woods. i also like this tin light kit form the same place (if i have to stay inside). in my dreams there is a princess ring from klara eriksson.

blogger: jan of poppytalk
to give: i like these plustaches by shannon gerard, this handmade porcelain dish by rae dunn and this ‘bag of bricks
to receive: portable usb turntable, herriott grace spoon (they have a wonderful story behind them), i’d also love a bowl of these ornaments, this coptic bound notebook and this print from kate banazi.

blogger: heather of skinny laminx
to give: tivoli ipal radio, everyone in my family will be getting their own mug (with my ceramic transfers on it)
to receive: earlier this year, i invested in a canon G9 camera, and am desperate to get the little old-school leather case that fits it like a glove, but it’s impossible to find. let’s hope someone’s been resourceful…

blogger: abigail percy
to give: hand-made all the way! in addition to gifting my own jewelery, i have some of these things in mind: nature boy and girl bags from design night, wooden bangles from paloma’s nest, feast from lines and shapes
to receive: some art for my place (i should be so lucky!): rob ryan, fox in mociun, and continued happiness and maybe even some love! (it is the time of year for being sappy after all)

to receive: i somehow managed convinced my parents we should go somewhere for christmas- so we’re going to panama (hence the hat)! other ideas are: culturesmart! panama, cities bag, orla kiely luggage, indie publishing by ellen lupton, diy nesting dolls, a green mac book.

blogger: victoria of sfgirlbybay
to give: spa treatments- it seems as though we’re all rushing about so much and already have so much “stuff”, that the gift of a little r&r seems like a nice idea to treat my friends and family to. it all depends on where they live, but for SF friends, a mani/pedi at silks is always wonderful, or a spa treatment at the kabuki, or maybe even a yoga class at international orange is an idea i have up my sleeve. happy, peaceful holidays to all!
to receive: i really love the gift of books. and this year, phaiden is putting out these special ribbon-tied, lovely box sets of their wallpaper* city guides. I used my city guide to bangkok extensively on my trip to thailand this year, so now i’ve got a real hankering for the world cities art fairs set, which features wallaper*’s city guides to basel, london, miami, new york and venice. one can dream, right?

blogger: birdie of dear ada
to give: the book ‘wisdom‘, a painting by kelly neidig, a shared afternoon making monotypes with my best friend at atelier meridian in portland
to receive: a pair of gorgeous bulb earrings from amieplante or spring magnolia branches from eva decarlo. a peace treaty scarf, a piece of atwater pottery for heath ceramics (heh, a girl can hope…)

to receive: a shopping spree at hudson boston. i would take anything and everything in this store.

blogger: susan at art esprit
to give: the gifts i am giving are handmade functional ceramics filled with homemade spiced pistachio nuts; the men are getting boyan bowls because they are functional, an amazing deal and manly enough: the women are getting some softer looking ones by kristen swanson because they are also functional, affordable and very pretty.
to receive: what i would love to receive is an extra long weekend away with my husband, with our friends in brooklyn … and i think i am actually going to get that!

blogger: sarah of saipua
to give: iittala cordial glasses with a bottle of homemade Elderberry liqueur. or this excellent and affordable port.
to receive: a mayle dress before they are no longer available.

blogger: jo of desire to inspire
to give: this yummy idea (candy sticks) via sweet paul is what i hope my friends will be stirring through their hot chocolate after a long christmas day.
to receive: (if money was no object) this oil painting by margaret ackland.
stirring through their hot chocolate after a long Christmas day.

I love these ideas. Thanks.

I laughed last year when everyone seemed to give “a letter telling each person how much I loved them” but was hoping to receive “ultra deluxe super limited ipod 3000 or the rarest pink diamond of the nile”. This year it’s a bit better (altho gift seems to be $X and presents seem to be $Xx3).
