red pagoda chandelier

i know in economic times like this it’s silly to daydream about things way out of my budget, but if i had an extra $1750 to spare, this chandelier from pieces would so be in my home. if anyone’s lucky to have some extra moola despite the recession, this little number could be yours.

I have been searching for an old one of these to paint red forever! Now I KNOW for sure it will look awesome. I like the lights too.

I saw a vendor at the last Brimfield Antiques Fair here in Massachusetts that had a stockpile of pagoda style chandeliers in the $300-$1000 range.

It’s not silly-creativity and dreaming are more important than ever-it’s a lack of attention to those that’s gotten us into this mess… :)

I got this exact chandelier on ebay for about $80 over the summer. I painted mine white with rustoleum. New candle covers at the hardware store were about $0.7o each. Pieces prices, like 1st dibs, are insane but I guess you pay them to do the legwork for you.

I do adore this, but agree with Sophia. Pieces prices have become steadily more insane, especially considering that they are repainted yard-sale finds and not important and rare designer pieces.

Grace, you can totally find a vintage chandelier like this on eBay. I see them all the time — they’re usually white and they usually sell for around $100. A can of red spray paint and maybe a $30 rewiring job from your local lamp repair shop and you’re good to go.

Pieces is great to peruse for ideas and inspiration, but I do find their prices really beyond the pale.

P.S. A hint on finding something similar on eBay: Search “bamboo chandelier” (http://shop.ebay.com/items/__bamboo-chandelier) or “tole chandelier” (http://shop.ebay.com/items/__tole-chandelier).

There are several of these up for auction right now — most for less than $50.

Hi Design Sponge! We love your website! Thanks so much for mentioning us, very flattered. Sorry some think our prices are too high. There is a lot of work and detail put into all of our pieces. Prices have increased for us on all levels. We spend a lot on professionals wiring, painting and upholstering to ensure good quality. However we try really hard to have a good range of accessories and gifts for everyone to leave feeling like they can afford something we have.

Amy: Thank you SO MUCH for the link to that $298 chandelier. I have been searching for something for my bedroom and the Pieces one is just too rich for my budget. But, I checked out their website and it is filled with stuff to dream about.

wow. i have a ratty not-exactly-the-same chandelier that i scavenged off the curb and I’ve been mulling whether or not to keep it. This pushed it into the “keep” column. I think I’ll paint it and wrap it in a strand of LED lights (no wiring/electrical skills whatsoever). thanks for featuring this. although i think the black light tubes are very ugly.

this is lovely! I have a wee birdcage obsession & love Oriental design so this would be a lovely addition to a long-dreamed-of Asian room…
sigh

A friend saw this and forwarded it to me… I found a rusty old one in a junk store. I stripped it, had it rewired, and painted it chinese red with Hollandlac paint. http://tinyurl.com/53fwrd Who knew!?

Wow you could probably build this out of electrical pipe and weld and spray paint the rest! hermm
