[Above: My bedroom takes me back. I love looking at this bedspread from a vintage store which reminds me of spending the night at my grandma’s house. If you haven’t noticed I like to mix a bit of the old, with some modern. The headboard is an old Indian doorway that I purchased at a reuse store in Berkeley. I love the play with the modern and the vintage. The lights are so sleak (Target) and the metallic modernized wallpaper is from Osborne and Little. I can’t forget the beautiful pillow I won from the pattern contest on Design Sponge from the very own Lena Corwin.]

Another amazing piece of art from Aesthetic Aparatus. Those amazing felt bowls are made by a girlfriend of mine at papaververt.com. The rug is from Ikea.

My husband and I bought a fixer upper 4 years ago. It’s been so much fun fixing it up, from refinishing floors and knocking down walls to choosing color for the walls. This room used to be the dining room, but it was so small and quaint we felt it deserved to be our cozy/tv room. I painted that tree out of a handmade stencil. The floor tiles are from the eco-friendly and recycled carpet company Flor, the lamp from West Elm, and the Plycraft (Eames look-alike) chair we found at a garage sale for $10!

One of my most precious possessions are the collection of dishes from my grandmother’s wedding which were sent to her from France (cause that’s just what they did back then!)…This is the other side of our bedroom. Those are pics from our wedding up on the wall. I love the white suits, so Saturday Night Fever. The armoire is a hand-me-down and the vase is Ikea.

Our house was built in 1937 and has these amazing arts and crafts fixtures (ceiling light and wall sconces). I love the character they add to the room. My mom sketched that pastel drawing of me when I was two years old. The couch is a flea market find and I made the pillows that are sitting on it…Two years ago we redesigned our bathroom, from the ground up because of a massive leak. It’s a big improvement from the old tiles which were hideous pepto bismol pink and lime green. We decided to skip the bathtub and do a full walk in shower without a door and only a glass partition. I feel like I’m at a spa. My husband sanded this long piece of afromoshia wood for our counter and we fell in love with these tiles from the Sausalito based company, Heath Ceramics. I love the blue wall (only one), which extend to cover the ceiling so when I’m showering it brightens up my day even when it’s gloomy and rainy outside.

This room is still under construction, but I’ve tried to make the most of it by painting the floors for the time being. The chandelier is from a flea market in LA which I painted white. (the kitchen photo by melisssa kaseman).

Beautiful! I love all the use of color and pattern, and it’s all so simple. I can’t wait for the Ikea to open in N.C. And I’m also curious how one gets to be a packaging designer for a major company. Dream job!

thank you all so much. i love that people can take ideas from my house and apply. If I can do it on a budget, anyone can! the cabinet by the blue wall is from Ikea. the pattern on the blue wall was one that i just drew out! what i could do is sketch it out for you and just sell the time it took for me to put it into a program so that you can print it out and do it yourself! let me know. for painting on linoleum floors, you might require a different kind of paint. i’m sure where ever you go for paint will be able to tell you what would work. my guess is that because linoleum is designed not to be porous, it will just peal and chip away. i would peel it up, but that could take a while, so get ready for a nice long project. the wallpaper is from osborne and little (i found a roll on ebay).
