if jonathan adler was colorful, dfc design was positively kaleidoscopic. this design duo from mexico city created a visual wonderland inside the javits center decorated with objects they brought back from a magical world called “mushi mushi”. tony and mauricio explained that each object was supposed to feel as if it was brought back from mushi mushi- and the designs certainly did feel otherworldly. there were sparkle-covered animals, figurines made from traditional mexican corn paste, giant animals covered in chalkboard paint that were designed to inspire children, colorful ceramic animal busts, and all sorts of sculptural ceramics painted in candy colors.

my favorite part of the booth was a new series that expanded on their existing pharmacy glassware collection (above). i have a fondness for the font used in the mexico 68′ olympics so it was fun to see it applied to amber glass. if i could take home any piece from their booth it would definitely be one of these. you can check out dfc’s new work online right here.
